@AnnemarieBridy I hacked up some CSS to improve the visual design of the advanced web interface, in case it’s useful to anyone else: https://hachyderm.io/@inthehands/109369271004447690
AIArt legal stuff mostly
I posted! Yet more on #Midjourney and general #AIArt issues of #copyright and so on.
Some light infringement? https://ceoln.wordpress.com/2022/12/16/some-light-infringement/
This is significant ...
The German office for data protection and freedom of information hosts the official #Mastodon server for government departments
They are now calling for all ministries on the server to put their focus on Mastodon
They are also asking ministries which are not yet on Mastodon to join as soon as possible
Coffee drinkers! Listen! Starbucks workers nationwide are starting a 3-day strike today (Friday 12/16) as part of their effort to unionize.
How can you help? Don't cross the picket line. Get your coffee elsewhere. (Preferably at independent coffee shops. Long live small biz).
And spread the word! Make this message viral. Let's hold billionaire corps accountable because worker's rights are human rights. Let's go.
Space mining? Now there's a joke: what good is a pickax in space? No, for us it's mostly hoovering. You've no idea just how empty most of space is until you try to find something worthwhile in it.
There are those who asteroid-hop, but you waste more material redirecting your craft and constantly recalibrating your trajectory, then slowing to a proper speed, than you ever recoup from your typical asteroid. No the real gold—and platinum and ruthenium—is found just floating about in spicks and specks in space.
Some laugh at us "detectorists", but we make a comfy living, and if you miscalculate with a spoover, likely as not you'll trip across another "vein" soon enough that's equally rich. When pickings are poor, we can usually find the remnant of a comet's tail or dip around a planet's exosphere like a slingshot, but if you try to process too much debris at once, you're likely to plug the spoover—it's not built to handle that kind of density. We're after quality, not quantity.

If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: http://presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: http://presscheck.org/pending

What the heck HAPPENED to Nate Silver, anyway?
"he didn't say he wanted elon to get rid of them" oh?
He said:
"if Elon gets all the hall monitors to migrate to Mastodon that might be his greatest contribution toward the betterment of humanity"
. . . I'm not sure what you mean by that. The Web does indeed sit atop the internet; the foundational protocols are http, html, CSS, and to an extent javascript and the DOM. Google didn't invent and doesn't control any of those. All the most popular implementations of all of those are available open source.
A consciousness somehow associated with matter.
Posting about culture, philosophy, politics, AI Art Tools, NaNoWriMo, Software Development occasionally, the relationship of consciousness to matter.
