I really don’t have anything more to say about ChatGPT, Galactica or whatever else they decide to put out next. We’ve written a paper about it, https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3442188.3445922 dealt with enough based on that. We need to spend our time slowly working on the technological future we think should exist, and we can’t do that if our time and imagination is hijacked by Open AI, the longtermists or whoever else.

I have multiple emails per day from journalists covering ChatGPT. The Open AI hype machine is exhausting. Very appreciative of everyone working to counter this hype.

I've seen a bit of griping and moaning about having to add #altText to images.

So many places, both online and in meat-space, have been made unusable for people that do not have the same abilities as the "average" person.

Adding readable text to describe an image takes a only a handful of seconds. If you have trouble with this, and it takes longer, then you finally have a glimmer of what it is like for someone who can't see the image at all.

It's about consideration. It's about #equity
