I'd like to read posts from disabled and chronically ill trans people living in countries that aren't the US, who write about their experiences where they live.

Anybody know of anyone who this describes that I can look up and follow?

A lot of you in the #trans community are probably aware that @tillybridges , @ValerieMars and I created a Discord for the purpose of having watch parties for the Matrix movies and Tilly's book, "Begin Transmission: The Trans Allegories of the Matrix" (now as an audiobook read by the author, GET IT!) and those have really become something special and you definitely should come to the next one.

However, you may not be aware that it has become a living, breathing space for trans folx and our allies! It's ran by me and an amazing team of moderators dedicated to giving us a safe space to share our community and joy. We'd love to have you there! All I ask is that you pop in, say hi, and then we will assign you a role as citizen of the city of IO! Here, have an invite.

> Fiske explained that the areas, the premotor cortex and posterior middle temporal gyrus, typically light up when one anticipates using tools, like a screwdriver. "I’m not saying that they literally think these photographs of women are photographs of tools per se, or photographs of non-humans, but what the brain imaging data allow us to do is to look at it as scientific metaphor. That is, they are reacting to these photographs as people react to objects."

> Fiske also tested the men for levels of sexism and found a surprising effect those who scored high on this test, "...the hostile sexists were likely to deactivate the part of the brain that thinks about other people's intentions. The lack of activation of this social cognition area is really odd, because it hardly ever happens. It’s a very reliable effect, that the medial prefrontal cortex comes online when people think about other people, see pictures of them, imagine other people."

@thiswomanswerk

I boosted this, but I'm going to also toot in reply to drag attention to what you're saying.

White people need to hear what it's like for Black users on Fedi, and why they're not flocking here to use what *should* be a better place.

None of this diminishes what happens to other marginalized groups here, either. But if we want trans liberation, my friends, we must also fight for Black liberation. It's all tied up together, we won't achieve our goals without Black help, and Black folk won't achieve theirs until white folk start making some real effort to make it better, since *we're the ones making it bad in the first place*. We need one another.

This isn't a subtoot at anyone; it's a general plea for solidarity and attention to our anti-racist and anti-transphobia work on either side. We fight, we just make it easier for the fash.

If we met an alien species, would any of our units of measurement be the same?

@urusan

Well, we don't measure things in units of the Planck length very often, but... :)

It's #SmallBusinessSaturday! I have a very small business: a jewelry shop run by me with help from my husband. (Sometimes my mom and dad take me to the post office.)

I do simple gemstone work as well as fused glass, which I make in a tiny tabletop kiln.

“It’s time to turn off this car accident of a tech future, and get on with reclaiming the world from this new generation of robber barons. These are not the demigods we’re looking for.” @Rushkoff brilliant article.

I'm a disabled artisan and I have built my artistic practice around my limitations. I'm not able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, so I spend time looking for interesting parts to put together for assembled pieces from bed. And I rest while the kiln runs.
