Tucker Carlson gins up a conspiracy theory to rehash some other conspiracy theories — all of which, it's worth noting, are Russia-adjacent. washingtonpost.com/politics/20

One of my all-time favorite Tiny Desk Concerts is the amazing and wonderful Lizzo. Top five, for sure.

Side note, what life choices have led to me (1) having a top five list of NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, and (2) knowing what they are?

Point is, Lizzo is a simply fantastic human being, and her energy and talent and personality are all right here. Plus, the flute!

She was also featured on Dave Letterman’s “My Next Guess Needs No Introduction,” and she rocked that too.

A nice Friendica feature is built in RSS feed reads. Today I added my favorite news feeds (non-paywall). Here is how I did it:

Gathered a list of rss urls of interest.
Went to my contacts page.
In the add contact box I pasted a url and pressed the connect button.
If it was a valid url, I saw a follow button and pressed it.
Then I was presented with an option to decide how often I want to see that rss.

Rinse and repeat!

Now I don't have to go to the sites where the ads are - I can read my news here!

This is the reference I started with stackposts.com/blog/rss_feeds

Dear white people:

Whenever you see someone who is #BIPOC speak up about the lack of #diversity on Mastodon... You don't need to give your opinion, you don't need to correct them about their own experience, you don't need to highlight the wonders of the fediverse. Just don't.

Instead, please listen to what they say, and remember that reach here is mediated by boosts, so instead of telling them to invite more people over—or to become Mastodon leaders of their community...

... Just boost them

Make a conscious effort to follow people who are #BIPOC and boost their posts.

Boost posts by non-white marginalized communities so you can help their voices reach farther.

I love to boost people who talk about their daily lives and the things that they do in it.

Too often "social media" is just a news aggregate. We post about things we think others need to know about or consider.

But I think when this is all we do, we lose touch with what it means to be human. I like being reminded that X has an annoying cat. I like knowing that Z is struggling with repairing their washing machine.

I like knowing there are people just trying to live their lives. Just like I am.

Hallelujah! Governor Kate Brown of Oregon has commuted the entire death row and ordered the execution chamber to be dismantled.
A brave, moral act. I salute her.

@aadilayub Man, y'all missed out. That's some classic nostalgia right there. Does that mean y'all never played #skiFree (ski.ihoc.net/)?

@lucifargundam And there are a million existing long-term contracts in place, methinks.

@TedUnderwood
Indeed! It was really striking with this prompt; other prompts might have felt a bit more gradual, but v4 was really A Thing.

And they say they're working hard on v5 [ominous music].

Imagine wanting to buy, like, an orange, and you find someone who says "yes, of course you can use our service to get an orange! It's just $0.50, and we support most of the popular orange suppliers!".

"What do you mean, orange suppliers? Aren't you an orange supplier?"

"Haha, no, we are an orange service! You have to sign up with an orange supplier, and then you can get oranges from that supplier through our service."

"Oh, you mean like a specific grower?"

"Haha, no, the growers sell their oranges to the distributors, who sell them to the supplier, who sell them to us, and we give them to you, through Doordash or Grubhub!"

"Wait, you don't deliver them, either?"

"Nono..."

And so on.

Shop talk: A few days ago I decided, due to a combination of ethical and safety concerns, to scale my #Twitter presence down to the absolute minimum, i.e. major announcements only.

Would I wish this nonsense hadn't happened right as I'm trying to build an audience for my first game release? Obviously.

But on the other hand, it's not like I've been particularly successful on Twitter anyway, so I'm taking this as a cue to diversify. 1/2

There’s a new wave of pachyderms on #Mastodon thanks to another round of the #TwitterMigration. Welcome to the #Fediverse! 👋

You’re going to like it here.

Start with an #introduction & say hello!

What to post? Share content you’re passionate about & you’ll meet folks with similar interests. Hashtags will help you find them faster.

With a few exceptions (just block them) this is a pretty friendly place. @feditips is a good follow to get started.

I’m glad you’re here.

I posted! Mostly comparing nine different pictures of Hemingway's Paris in the rain, produced with various different versions of the engine.

Cable cutting rant

This thing where every company involved makes it as unclear as possible what the alternatives to Cable TV are, seems a bit weird.

You'd think someone who serves to make a profit from people doing it, would make it nice and simple. But no!

Between the cable company, the internet company (who is in my case also the cable company!), the streaming providers, and the mysterious extra layers like YouTube TV / Chromecast / Apple TV / Lord Knows, it's a life's work just to figure out how to be able to like watch Wimbledon and how much it will cost...
