Singer Josephine Baker was the toast of Paris. She was a spy for the French Resistance during WWII & secured passports for Jewish citizens fleeing Nazi territory.

Her marriage to a Jewish businessman drew the attn. of Hermann Göring, who poisoned her. Members of the Fr. Resistance rescued her; she recovered.

She was awarded the Legion of Honor, Croix de Guerre & the Rosette of the Resistance. In 2021, she was inducted into Panthéon, France's hallowed tomb of heroes. #BlackFriday

@futurebird Calculus made no sense at all in HS, I nearly flunked. My first year of College was also my Calculus Professor’s first year teaching. He was so motivated to share his love of Mathematics that I got straight A’s in the subject *and* the Maths Dept. Chair called me to his office to encourage me to switch my Major. (Forty years later, my career veered back to IT and now I wish I had!)

Nihilism vs absurdism

Instead of thinking that love, happiness, and those emotions and experiences are less meaningful or less "real" just because they're caused by molecules, think about how amazing those molecules must be to be able to cause them.

If I get my account back, will I stay on Twitter? Unless Elon Musk makes a dramatic course change, I don't know why anyone—journalist or otherwise—would feel comfortable investing a single tweet into the hands of this volatile totalitarian. I won't delete my Twitter account, but Mastodon is home going forward.

Welcome new users to the Fediverse!

I'm sure a lot of you joined for similar reasons recently and regardless of those reasons we're glad you're here.

One thing I'd like to point out is there's a misconceived idea of the Fediverse being a "free speech platform" which it is and isn't. It's made up of lots of individual servers that have their own rules so be sure to follow those rules of your server. Some of those server rules might not jive with you so be sure to find a server that does. 🙂

i guess i could’ve tagged this #blackmastodon since (afaik) it’s mostly Black elders that do this.

(the thought was prompted by me folding hundreds of programs for my dad’s funeral that are going to be sent to many of the aforementioned Black elders across multiple states.)
