"Body language" twaddle

So my phone recommended this to me, because I tend to click on things that look bogus, just to see how bogus they really are. An antipattern in algorithm training, I know...

Those two do seem to be fond of each other, but there's no such thing as a "body language expert". It's pseudoscientific twaddle. A nice video on the subject (from a favorite YouTube channel): youtu.be/Y0VQyEY-B2I

Someone on here said to me recently, there are no happy endings, only sad beginnings.

We're in a sad beginning moment.

We built some really beautiful stuff, but we built it on a foundation of sand and it is rapidly washing away.

We can and should mourn, but we also need to learn, plan, and organize.

That's how we turn moments of loss into moments of growth. Always.

And, we need to be talking about building community redundancy.

We can't rely on single platforms anymore.

We need to be strategic about backing up not just our data, but our communities.

That way, when the unexpected happens, we don't get stuck rebuilding from scratch.

#introduction: my battles

I was the first trans person to change my name on already-published research papers. I didn't think I was the first when I did it, which helped.

I'm part of the Name Change Policy Working Group (ncpwg.org) to make this easier for others. Many journals now allow name changes.

Google Scholar refuses to call trans authors by their names, or even talk to trans people. I made scholar.hasfailed.us. Google should either listen to us or shut down Scholar.

There are some annoying ads and it might be a "two free articles a month" sort of thing, but this is a great story:

Vampire o'clock is my favourite time of day.

The sun drains below the horizon, dragging its oppressive cloak of revelation and clarity with it, and in every nook and cranny, uncertainties and wonders prick up their ears and stretch, ready to come out and play.

Wondering how foreign supermarkets will deal with the 'British' section when the UK breaks up.

@bobcorrigan
I love doing the same with code, when I get the chance.

(For some reason I don't tend to do it with my writing, which I generally just let sit and ripen in the sun.)
