Personally, I want to shut up about gender forever and not have to worry about it. I long for a world in which being trans is completely unremarkable and posting online about it would be as mundane as posting about going to the dentist. I don’t really want to have to be visible to be worth having rights and freedom and safety and to feel normal and accepted. Until that time though, we’re here and we’re queer, get used to it!

Feeling inadequate because everyone on Mastodon appears to be a professor or a doctor or a rocket scientist?

Follow me and feel better about yourself, for I have the intellect of a clever potato.

When @jk_rowling@twitter.com spread a load of pseudoscience about trans kids, "ROGD" for one. @Mermaids_Gender@twitter.com offered to broker a discussion with some trans youth to get the truth. She pointedly ignored the offer, not wanting to hear from the kids she was lying about twitter.com/kwprime/status/164

"top labs" in citation [2] Open AI and Deepmind. Y'all know ALL the founders are #TESCREAL bundle adherents?

Imagine if you were seeing the leaders of scientology being the ones leading the "AI" research, discourse, and policy recommendations & the press is talking about everything except that they're leaders of scientology & that's their motivating ideology for all this.

The central holding of the #InternetArchive court opinion is, if you own a physical book and scan it, you infringed the author's copyright by creating an unauthorized copy—even if you never use both at the same time. (This also implies that printing an ebook = infringement.)

That's quite bad.

@timnitGebru How is a letter cosigned by Elon Musk that reads "Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?" not flagged as a giant joke?

The very first citation in this stupid letter, futureoflife.org/open-letter/p, is to our #StochasticParrots Paper,

"AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research[1]"

EXCEPT

that one of the main points we make in the paper is that one of the biggest harms of large language models, is caused by CLAIMING that LLMs have "human-competitive intelligence."

They basically say the opposite of what we say and cite our paper?

"AI research and development should be refocused on making today's powerful, state-of-the-art systems more accurate, safe, interpretable, transparent, robust, aligned, trustworthy, and loyal."

😂😂😂 I. Just. Can't. LOYAL TO WHOM?

" robust public funding for technical AI safety research;"

THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE. The same assholes that got as here call themselves "AI safety" people. That's what Open AI people called themselves and these bozos who wrote this paper highly influence those clowns.

I drew this in 2020, posted it on the birdsite, and it went viral (at least by my standards!), earning me 250 new followers.

It shows how much battery various stars would have left if they had battery indicators like phones do. #MastoArt

Since last year, I've been obsessed with teasing apart who really owns — and finances — 4chan.

Well, I finally cracked it. wired.com/story/4chan-good-smi

The allure of fMRI's pretty pictures and impressive machinery/price tag has substantially impeded progress in the study of cognition. It's the most expensive expression of Cartesian dualism.

The organism thinks, not the brain.

Just a couple of months ago, 'journalists' were decrying that mastodon/the fediverse was dying. Now we're saving proper journalism. Not only can journalists find a place here, but when they do, we do great things together.

We dared to do a mighty thing. We dared to show that proper journalism still has a place in America. Together, we don't just have to dare mighty things. Together, we accomplish mighty things. Live long and prosper, @TexasObserver #TexasNeedsAnObserver

I saw a well-off pundit muse that the French should simply retire later and work more, rather than protest.

The future we deserve, which is much better for people's health as well as the environment, is working less.
