Way to go, Hamilton. Kudos to @HWDSB@twitter.com for having the courage to pass the motion to #BringBackMasks. Thank you for doing more to keep children and educators healthy. In my opinion, that matters. Ontario let us down by not being proactive. #onpoli #onted cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/hw

Thank you @HWDSB@twitter.com Trustees for acting. And for parents like Dr Oliver standing up and being a voice for sick kids in the face of anti-masker intimidation (not tagging him jic)

Over the last decade, global SUV ownership has doubled. If it keeps growing at its current rate, increased SUV ownership will offset the entire emissions reduction from electric vehicles. Plus they’re much more likely than smaller cars to kill pedestrians.

Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via #StreetsblogUSA, read their article linked below. #bikelanes #bikes #cities #transportation #mobility #sharrows #infrastructure #urbanism

For folks that don't know: I led a public service projec that made it possible for anyone in the U.S. to search for COVID-19 testing sites, and actually get accurate results back. I co-led a team of hundreds of volunteers from across the country to source data that shaped the pandemic response for 2 U.S. Presidential Administrations as well as state and local public health agencies responsible for 1 in 5 persons in the U.S.

I'm not just talking out of my ass.

In 1925, Dr. Cecilia Payne completed her PhD thesis, described as “the most brilliant ever written in astronomy.” At a time when few #women entered academia, Payne discovered what the universe is made of. Her work began a revolution in astrophysics.

Dr. Payne-Gaposchkin became the 1st female professor & 1st female department chair at Harvard. Given most of us remember names like Darwin & Newton, we should also celebrate Payne. #science #space

Upper-room #UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation) is the most #EnergyEfficiency method for reducing risk in crowded spaces with tall ceilings. /3

Higher ceilings reduce risk. Requiring a higher Clean Air Delivery Rate in places with high ceilings to achieve 6 air changes per hour doesn't make sense. To avoid this problem, the OSPE committee recommends capping ceiling height at 2.7m (9 feet) when calculating the volume of clean air to hit the 6 ACH target. /2

Ontario's engineering society has released core recommendations for safer indoor air.

They can be downloaded from ospe.on.ca/indoor-air-quality/ #COVIDisAirborne

Our main recommendation is to provide a minimum of six air changes per hour (ACH) through ventilation, filtration or ultraviolet germicidal irradiation systems. BUT! 6 ACH doesn't apply well to small spaces like vehicles and large spaces with high ceilings. /1

There were no high school robotics competitions when I was a kid— but we did have the state science fair and math league. I remember going to those competitions— the strange feeling of being at some other school like a parallel universe. The odd way schools feel on Saturdays and holidays.

One thing I knew before we got there was I’d probably be the only black girl, only black person period, the only girl. I’d spend time on the bus thinking up sassy responses for “where are you from?”
