Our lab has started a weekly journal club covering classic papers in immunology. First up, Mosmann and Coffman use murine CD4+ T cell clones and establish the Th1/Th2 paradigm. Journal of Immunology in 1986.
"The derivation of two distinct types of Th cell clones raises the question of the total diversity of T cell phenotypes."

Nice central complex you have in there 😜 – convergent evolution or shared descent? Any gene expression or developmental evidence for or against?
(And did Nick Strausfeld already contacted you? Or Frank Hirth and their MHB gene expression markers?)

"Before 2002, no in-depth information was available on human CoVs (HCoVs) and their zoonotic potential. The emergence of the first highly pathogenic HCoV in 2002, SARS-CoV-1, the subsequent epidemic MERS-CoV, and the pandemic SARS-CoV-2, opened “Pandora’s box” on CoVs." I remember my virology textbook (~1984) had a half-page on coronaviruses. We've come a long way, but not done yet.

By the way the event-based approach to computational efficiency without compromising performance seems Delbruck-inspired. Amusingly, in the paper the DVS128 Gesture Dataset is used ... very fitting indeed.

This is definitely an area where it makes sense that AI could outperform humans.
'The new methodology is “remarkable”, says Dave Mauger, a computational RNA biologist who previously worked at Moderna in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a maker of mRNA vaccines. “The computational efficiency is really impressive and more sophisticated than anything that has come before.”

A reference framework to normalize human lymphocyte numbers in ageing.
'In this study, we analyze cross-sectional numbers of mainly T lymphocytes (CD3+, CD3+CD4+, and CD3+CD8+) and their subpopulations (naive and memory) from 673 healthy Dutch individuals ranging from infancy to adulthood (0–62 y). We fitted the data by a delayed exponential function and estimated parameters for each lymphocyte subset.'
