Marc Andreesen's manifesto is an example of what happens when the classic spirit of techno-optimism (think Arthur C. Clarke) becomes unmoored from its largely humanist, rationalist values. Technology must exist to better the human condition, or it has no point at all. 1/2

I consider myself to be a techno-optimist but I am cringing and gas-facing through a lot of Marc Andreesen's Techno-Optimist Manifesto. He doesn't speak for all of us as he seems to conflate techno-optimism with hyper-capitalism. That's not a given.

This halftime drum 'n' bass business is the subgenre that shows the most energy and forward thinking. In my opinion it's the leading innovation in the genre and this is one of my favourite bangers.

"In its thwarted optimism, the news is the disillusioned progeny of the enlightenment. Refusing to square with human nature, it allows our hopes to smash constly against the same shoals. Look, Jason Statham's Working Man is not a great film, but did you really expect it to be? It's a satisfying, check-your-brain-at-the-door action film. As such, it's a McDonalds burger of a film. It's not great, but it'll do.

Just found my way back here to Mastodon. I'd been bouncing around servers for some time and then took a break from social media. Now I'm trying to handle it differently and looking for interesting accounts to follow.

It's there a Bluesky version of Facebook's Events yet?
