@design_RG Ah, that's one of their live albums I believe. Explains why I didn't recognize it. Yes are definitely a great band, and their album covers are wonderful! I would say Relayer probably has the most beautiful art, also designed by Dean. The music of that album is good as well, especially Gates of Delirium.

@trevdev@mastodon.technology Not a Rust expert, but `<char> as u8` just results in the numerical unicode value of that character, in the form of an unsigned 8-bit integer, right? So `'a' as u8` should be greater than `'z' as u8`, and it will continue to iterate until the unicode value of the character is greater than that of z is.

Just finished preparing my presentation for the European Parliament on Tuesday. I’m representing @Mastodon and small technology there on a panel to discuss the future of the Internet and I hope we can get the regulators to at least not fuck things up for our ethical alternatives.

My slides (not hugely meaningful without the narrative but in case you’re curious) are here:

Remind me again why I let you talk me into this, @Gargron? ;P

@design_RG @Sphinx Seems very pleasant. Would you say it has a nice flavor?

@arteteco My taste is pretty all over the place to be honest. I'd say I'm especially fond of electronic music, though. My username actually comes from a song by Boards of Canada. If you haven't listened to them, you definitely should, they've made some pretty wonderful albums!

Anyone ever tried a cup of lapsang souchong? It's a Chinese tea that's usually smoked. Tastes as if I'm drinking the essence of a barbeque.

@raining_night I've had an Echo for quite some time now. I agree, however, that it is most concerning in terms of privacy. I've found that most of the things I do with- setting alarms, reminders, timers- could be done with my phone, almost more efficiently, considering the voice recognition can occasionally be a little infuriating. But I keep it around, at least partly because I dream of one day making an IoT device of my own and writing an Alexa skill for it.

@Sphinx I screwed up on my first driving exam as well. It was funny, actually, I would've passed had I not messed up on the easiest part, where I had to park alongside the curb in a residential area. Somehow I managed to accidentally go over the curb. So, y'know, it's good that you didn't do something that embarrassing.

@design_RG Which album is that? I'm assuming it's the inside cover of one of their releases, as I haven't seen it before.

@freemo I too need to reread 1984. It has been about 2 years since I read it, and my worldview has changed quite a bit in that time. I think it would almost be like reading an entirely different book.

@design_RG Thank you! On a first impression, this community seems to be home to many knowledgeable people. I think I'll like it here.
