@henry yes!
i have been using hashtags like and

it seems like they may need to propagate which seems to take some time... but others have seen my toots where i used those tags and they are on a different server.

tho i am still on my steep learning curve!

Tuesday update on the #mastodon growth. 135k (!!) users join yesterday. Also, I'm zooming out the plot to see the evolution in the number of new users through the last year. I'm going to need a logarithm scale pretty soon 😎

now that i am following more , and those tooters are following more tooters, there are lots more on my .

totes! rather, toots!

I love the graphic on the cover of this 1977 Bulletin from the Oregon Dept. of #Geology on North American #Ophiolites.

for the M 7.6 (likely) subduction zone in on 19 Sept 2022

catching up on reports that happened after my website went down

generated 0.6-1.7m wave height
probably triggered landslides/induced liquefaction

Hi! I’m an environmental geoscientist and educator who believes passionately that meaningful place-based geoscience education can change the world.
I share about science, education, equity and my family. #Introduction #Geoscience #Science

for M 6.9 in Taiwan on 18 September 2022

there was lots of damage and some casualties :-(

landslides and liquefaction models show that there was a high likelihood for these.

i am filling in some as I just got my website back up and running after almost two months of arduous work (steep learning curve getting web services set up on a robust server)

Greetings tooters!

this account is for Dr. Jason "Jay" R. Patton (aka EarthJay) and I march for science.

His main education/outreach effort is voluntarily writing up posts on earthjay.com. These are for and events of interest, sorted in different ways; sorted by year here: earthjay.com/?page_id=3220

they are an engineering geologist (PG license 9758) who serves the public while at the California Geological Survey, Seismic Hazards and Tsunami programs. conservation.ca.gov/cgs/

he has been studying the tectonics of the Cascadia subduction zone (a convergent plate boundary fault system) for over 25 years (MS thesis at cal poly humboldt, dept geology). he is an adjunct professor at this dept. geology.humboldt.edu/

they studied marine sedimentary records (submarine landslide deposits called turbidites) of earthquakes offshore of Sumatra/Cascadia for my marine geology & geophysics PhD at oregon state university. ceoas.oregonstate.edu/

capital letters are over rated but chocolate and oxford commas are not.

Ever seen a headline about #volcano smoke? The grey plume that rises from a volcano isn't smoke at all, it's volcanic ash (yeah I know, the confusing term doesn't help). It's made up of pulverized rock, crystals, glass, and gases, & produces different dangers to smoke.

It's also not at all fluffy like movies like to show.

You can learn more about it and how to protect yourself here: inthecompanyofvolcanoes.blogsp

Hi 👋🏻 I’m Wendy! I’m an earthquake geologist and a science communication specialist. My science is focused on hazards, but my mission is to make science more understandable and accessible. #scicomm

Hello everyone! Let me reintroduce myself now that I realize the importance of hashtags here… I am Jascha Polet, #seismologist and #professor of #geophysics at Cal Poly Pomona in #California (hence the CPPGeophysics name on that other app). My focus here will be on #earthquakes, #volcanoes, geophysics, #geoscience, #science #education, indoor and outdoor animals, photography and whatever else might come to my mind. #introduction #reintroduction

I don't know exactly how I'll be using Mastodon just yet, but here's an intro: Hi, I'm Celeste! I'm an environmental seismologist, mostly specializing in seismic signals generated by glacier processes. I'm currently a postdoctoral fellow at UCalgary, which I started after finishing my PhD at Caltech in June. I sometimes take cool pictures in the field as Queen Elsa for fun and for outreach, like this one near my current field site in British Columbia:

Hello! Introducing myself including proper hashtags. I am Paula Marques Figueiredo, #Geologist working in #Paleoseimology, #ActiveTectonics, #Geomorphology, #Soils and #Geochronology (#OSL and #Cosmogenics). I work with #Earthquakes, #NaturalHazards, frequently #Trenching evidence of them. I am a native of #Portugal, living in the USA. My favorite earthquake is the #1755LisbonEarthquake (obviously)!

Hello! Here's an #Introduction.

I'm the editor of the Lost Coast Outpost (@lostcoastoutpost), a local news website in Humboldt County, California.

We've been around for almost 12 years now, and we're doing pretty well -- we have six news reporters, and we do lots meaningful work for our community. We're also very tech-forward. Hence this bespoke Mastodon instance.

I'm interested in the great journalism transformation, technology and artificial intelligence, and Brazilian music. For starters.

Hello, #Caturday! This is Katla! She is 3 years old, and I adopted her in April of 2020. She is named after one of the most infamous volcanoes in Iceland.

Katla is very friendly and vocal. She loves people and tries to make herself the center of attention at all times. If you were to visit, she'd be in your face immediately. But also be warned, she has no respect for personal space - neither for people, nor for Andreas. I've given up on hoping she'll stop following him into the litterbox...
