The sticking point, as he describes it, is "backfill". I know it's been highlighted by people charging four figures for 64GB of RAM, but one of the most startling ways the impacts of RAM and memory production shifting away from consumers and towards AI has shown up for me has been storage prices.

I really enjoy photography so I decided to get some big-ass SD cards during Black Friday to use with the camera an an SSD to store photos on.

A 256GB card I paid is up 25% in a little over two weeks. A 512GB card is up 17%. The most shocking though is the 1TB SSD, which went from $110 up to an eye-watering $225, a 105% increase. There's going to be a fucking memory shortage most of 2026 and a big part of 2027.

But hey, ChatGPT can hallucinate a recipe for you that will make you sick, so it's a win overall, right?

My Samsung phone is so frustrating. Even when I'm using an alternative keyboard, the OS insists on autoincorrecting my typing. I cannot find a place to turn it off.

Apart from the annoyance where I need to watch out for it corrupting my words or inserting or moving around periods, it also means that in e.g. Termux the terminal won't receive characters until they form a full word.

All autocorrect is turned off in AnySoftKeyboard. On a Huawei, that works as expected. I've turned off all autocorrect in Samsung Keyboard, in case that would help. It doesn't.
