So Google and Facebook's "Jedi Blue" collusion contract is finally public, and they actually explicitly included a termination clause for "the law found out about the contract".

When you create a contract that you explicitly know is illegal and has to have such a clause, everyone involved needs to go to prison. #Google #Facebook #JediBlue #Antitrust

Left the UK and US immigration is complete so looks like the "Matthew doesn't get arrested in the UK challenge 2024 edition" is complete, thanks for all the emotional support everyone

"Today, most of the major streaming media platforms utilize the TPM to decrypt media streams, forcefully placing the decryption out of the user's control." (from defectivebydesign.org/dayagain) I… just… what? This isn't even slightly true. There's plenty of good reasons to object to Microsoft imposing hardware requirements on Windows 11 that aren't strictly required, but *nobody* is doing media decryption on a TPM because TPMs are nowhere near fast enough to do that

@mjg59 This is a thing I see weirdly frequently lately from widely known people/places that *should know better* where they write a blog post with claims that are complete fiction and which could have been fact checked with one(1) Google search...

Year 2025. The only “square year” that most of us will see: 45^2 = 2025. The previous one was 1936 (44^2) and the next one will be 2116 (46^2).

Also
(1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)^2 = 2025
and
1^3+2^3+3^3+4^3+5^3+6^3+7^3+8^3+9^3 = 2025

Waymo (aka Google) admits that it trains its robotaxis to break the law. When WaPo reporter finds robotaxis fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalk 70% of the time, Waymo says it follows "social norms" rather than laws.
Expert explains: When robotaxis obey law, they don't go fast enough to compete successfully with Uber, so Google execs ordered engineers to ignore laws.

This morning, there was possibly the last gravitational-wave candidate of the year. It was the 95th significant candidate in 2024 and the 173rd from O4, the fourth joint observing run.

S241230bd, if of astrophysical origin, came from the merger of two black holes that occurred at a (luminosity) distance of around 8.9 billion light-years.

@LIGO in Hanford and Virgo contributed data to this first analysis.

@dansup fuck whoever is targeting you.

The Alberta we currently have is not the Alberta we both grew up in and it won't be the Alberta we live in past the next election.

I have many thoughts here but don't fit in 500 characters. You're doing incredible work to enhance the fediverse and they just want a piece of the pie.

Like someone else said, "code up or shut up."

Anyone else continually seeing apps quietly failing to load content from the internet on a Fairphone 4?

More details: notes.underlap.org/fairphone-a

Please boost for visibility. I'd like to know how common this problem is.

Carter's message on the Voyager spacecraft Golden Record:

This is a present from a small distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours. We hope someday, having solved the problems we face, to join a community of galactic civilizations. This record represents our hope and our determination, and our good will in a vast and awesome universe.

@paul_ipv6 @adamshostack thats the big story here. that apple is trying to argue that it takes users privacy seriously, but then pulls this shit.

theyre lying.
this is deliberate.

this is the 'ask for forgiveness not for permission' model, at cloud scale

@falken Ali Express now feels more legit than Amazon lol.

Have you watched Die Hard this ?

Apple intelligence summary of a post, alongside the post itself. A simple typo, which your brain easily autocorrects via the surrounding language, causes the summary’s meaning to be partially inverted. Do not trust these garbage-spewing technologies for anything.

A chart that shows everything that has ever existed.

Also why does the observable universe have the density of a black hole?

"OpenAI expects about $5 billion in losses on $3.7 billion in revenue this year, CNBC confirmed in September. Those numbers are increasing rapidly."

So… The business model is to train models on everyones' data without paying them, then lose a billion dollars.
