That tongue is in motion!
@carlosmoffat I didn’t realize the volume of these till I checked my spam folder, which catches about three every day. I’m only seeing the ones that get through every few days.
@msherr I first ask the student if they meant the check that box. The few times I’ve run into this I’ve found the student misunderstood the intent of the checkbox. Sometimes they are rather naive.
Thanks to the Met Office archives, these sheets were scanned & made openly available, but how could the observations be extracted?
The answer? Ask for help: https://bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52040822
16,000 volunteers stepped forward during the first UK COVID lockdown to transcribe every observation.

Next “the forest fire was not related to climate change because it was started by a match.”
@RobertMaguire that’s a nice piece of reporting.
EPA now has a serious focus on environmental justice with a mandate to rectify historical wrongs.
It’s no wonder that the Kochs pour millions into the pockets of their congressional lackies.

Yes!
Funding from all the Multilateral Banks is essential for the global clean energy transition. These institutions were built for the post WWII world; they need to be repurposed for the 21st century.
The World Bank needs to be led by a Climate champion!
Countries are struggling to adapt to climate-driven crises caused by all of us who have benefited from 2 centuries of fossil fuel burning.
World Bank chief condemned over climate stance to step down https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/feb/15/david-malpass-world-bank-president-steps-down?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Great news: Climate denier David Malpass, picked by Donald Trump to run the World Bank, is stepping down.

And an alternate path where the chemistry conducted by microbes is discovered before high T, high pressure brut force chemistry applied to fossil fuels, and instead leads to low T aqueous syntheses of anything we need made from biology, not lumps of coal.
@RobertMaguire
Bergman is one of the 147 seditionist reps.
He constantly invokes his military career and uses military language in an unfortunately successful effort to distract his constituents from the fact that he has done absolutely nothing for them since he was elected.
He follows the gop liars' playbook, but not loudly enough to make national news.

I have set up a fundraiser for Earthquake relief so Michigan Tech students far from home can channel their efforts to send help.

How can his PAC know which foreign contacts to shake down if they don’t have access to intelligence briefings?
@TheConversationUS
True, but also here in rural #michigan I just finished an excellent lunch at a nice, non-chain restaurant for $18, including a generous tip.
(Of course, the eating out options are rather limited.)
I live on the shores of #LakeSuperior on the #Keweenaw Peninsula in the #UpperPeninsula of #Michigan. This region is within Ojibwe Gichigami (“Ojibwa’s Great Sea”) homelands and ceded-territory, established by the TREATY OF 1842
I'm a professor of #environmental #chemistry with an interest in everything related to #climate, including molecular to global aspects of the carbon cycle, energy and social transitions, new and old technologies for sustainability, forests and biodiversity, local to international climate policy, and the systems thinking approaches we need to make progress.
Too much of a news and politics junkie than is healthy.
I share my homestead with a partner, a dog, several felines, two donkeys, plants, and occasional uninvited critters.
