periodic reminder that the only reason CSV exists is that someone didn't read the ASCII spec
@freemo interesting! Perhaps the law should require these types of records to become public and open, and/or require a judge's order to expunge them. That could make that type of negotiation impossible.
@freemo I agree with most of your post here - I think eliminating the unions won't eliminate the brotherhood and protection setup, and is probably infeasible politically. Bringing accountability is necessary though.
@freemo absolutely.
@freemo some of those address accountability. Changing qualified immunity is also important I think, and speaks to accountability.
@freemo here's a list of suggestions for improving the police situation which I saw compiled in the NYT Morning Briefing a week-ish ago:
"""
Samuel Sinyangwe of Campaign Zero, a group formed after Brown’s death: Restrict chokeholds, train officers to de-escalate conflicts and prohibit them from shooting at moving vehicles, among other steps.
A 2019 California law: Change the standard for when an officer can legally use deadly force, from one based on a “reasonable belief” of imminent danger to one in which a later review finds it “necessary.”
Jennifer Cobbina, Michigan State University: Implicit-bias training for officers and “frank engagement between law enforcement and the people they serve to address tensions, grievances and misconceptions.”
David French, National Review: Acknowledge that “many controversial police shootings are lawful and justifiable” but also stop accepting excuses and cover-ups for those that are not.
Chuck Wexler, Police Executive Research Forum: Train officers to intervene when a colleague “may be on the brink of using excessive force,” as Los Angeles and New Orleans are doing.

@olry@mstdn.social you've probably seen these Intel NUCs before... Tiny form factor, not unlike a Mac Mini in that sense, much more powerful than a Pi.

@olry@mstdn.social AFAIK they don't do any ordering, for most parts there are "buy now" links that are simply affiliate links... But I did have to go add everything to carts on respective sites myself. Most of the time the affiliate links were to the sites with the best prices, so I did use a couple of them.
@olry@mstdn.social hahaha yeah that's where my head is now I forget to link to the list. It was pretty helpful, I still checked a bunch of specs independently.
Having not payed attention to hardware in years I wasn't aware of the new M.2 standard, and almost skipped using one of those drives. Fortunately some friends mentioned it.
BUT - one feature that site could use is to suggest an upgrade... It would recommend compatible updates for similar price.

I suppose I should link to the details.
@olry@mstdn.social I built this computer recently and am very happy with it. I balanced between size, cost, work (development, VMs), gaming, and immediate availability of parts. The only problem is that it's boxed up and on a moving truck right now.
Future upgrades: two more sticks of RAM and two more monitors.

@er1n do it in a less obtrusive way? I don't mind sharing where a watermarked photo came from, but I don't like it when the photo is unusable because of the watermark.
