Mastodon to Twitter Crossposting ?
Just found this site, run by a Brazilian instance admin. It promises to do crossposting two ways - from birdsite to mastodon feeds, or vice versa.
https://crossposter.masto.donte.com.br/
This page above is a working installation - you can add your own job to it by selecting and configuring options.
Features, see their Git page: https://github.com/renatolond/mastodon-twitter-poster#features
@design_RG we already have a bot that will cross post from twitter accounts. we have one or two accounts we already do that for @KatieVanStuart is one.
@freemo
Ah, thank you! I was just reading some more, found the crossposter interesting. He has qoto listed on his black list as "free-speech instance (no moderation)"
https://github.com/masto-donte-com-br/InstanceInternals/blob/master/Blocklist.md
Will look at the Katie account next.
That block isnt fir a crossposting tool. It is the block list for this instance: https://masto.donte.com.br/about
@freemo
Correct, it's for that instance. The admin there is the developer and maintainer of the crosspost tool I am testing.
Ahh, shame. Many are abusive when it comes to their block lists and in no way critical of who they add. One person complains once and the list goes on forever.
I found a note pinned at the top of the crossposter tool account at his instance, and thought it might be the reason for the ban.
Bot here: https://masto.donte.com.br/@crossposter
But upon going and looking for his instance block list, it's there, so not a feedback loop control thing like the his post mentions.
Was going to ask you if I couldn't find qoto in his list.'
@design_RG Not much we can do about the intolerance of other system admins sadly.
@freemo Yes, I understand. It's part of being a federation, and I respect his right to admin his instance as he sees fit.
Pity, because it's not fair, Qoto is not a free for all, un-moderated instance.
Most people with long block lists have never even interacted with the instances they block. Its mostly just gossip that no one ever bothers to confirm. Very sad.
Sice they have qoto blocked they will never see your message sadly.
I used to polietly reach out to admins to address their concerns if they block us from M.S account.
Despite being respectful and leaving alone anyone who asked me not to message them the admins at M/S saw this as harassment and told me not to. So I dont.
@renatolond
Indeed, the "lets ban everyone at the drop of a hat" crowd has gotten pretty extremist in how they handle that ideology.
Playing with and testing the crossposter, lots of fine controls for privacy, etc. Well thought and designed interface, and it works well, as advertised.
Great work Renato!
...and upon experimenting, I realize why something did not work as expected - my fault for missing a check box, to get RT with LINKS included.
It's all there, both for original posts and for Quote (a ReTweet where someone added their own text on top of a RT original).
Done and all should work as expected now.
Tested and it works to include a mention to someone's Fediverse address - it went thru perfectly, and became live in the Fediverse as soon as cross-posted here.
Awesome tool.
I have sent the author a DM from my other account, at a different instance, thanking him for the nice tool and inviting a visit to this thread if he likes.
Ahh so it is useless for QOTO users.
You know there are other crossposters that work with QOTO if you wish
This is the one I use with my QOTO account with no problems:
Thank you! Will have to try that. My account here at Qoto is my primary Fediverse instance, so I really need to use it as an incoming destination for any crossposts I made.
I only use it from mastodon to twitter. I have no interest on posting to twitter.
@freemo
I don't have interest in posting at the bird's either, but there is some content that I would like to bring here.
Light casual user there, I have *way* more posts here in Fedi in a few weeks than in twitter in a few years.
So wait, what two accounts are you cross posting between then if it isnt twitter?
I am bringing in twitter posts I liked or made myself. Into the fediverse, but not at qoto since our instance is blacklisted for now.
And just finished setting up MOA for a test, seems good, nice options including a choice of only crosspost if a hashtag is present on it. Neat, thanks for the referral.
I understand now. Well if you wish to do it at qoto you can always use moa.party
Yes, for sure. I just made a test post with MOA and I don't see it here yet. Maybe a delay? Or I have something configured wrong, checking now.
I can only say it works for me... But i think it works on new posts not old ones.
There was a little delay, he's probably processing a large number of accounts. But it did work, and the choice of crossposting or not via a hashtag is a nice one. 🤔
@freemo
Thank you for mentioning Moa. It is a very spartan page, one menu only, but it works and the hashtag trigger option is neat.
Renato's is easier for a new user like me, who learned by testing that I had missed options his page clearly explains, with a short example. And it works well, it's faster than Moa atm.
Aha!! Newbie that I am, just discovered that Renato's tool ALSO allows Keywords OR Hashtags as desired. To allow or block crossposting.
Had missed it, with all the new controls I wasnt familiar with yet.
(And have too many things on the go too, possibly)
@freemo
Point in favour of keeping two crossposters active - my bridged posts at my other instance have received a lot more reactions than here. Surprising since it's a smaller number of users, but probably more active and engaged.
Got to say that the wonderful full post word search we have here at Qoto is missing, sadly, at the other instance.
Super handy feature, specially since we don't have proper bookmarks in Mastodon yet. UI have dug lots of my own posts very quick, simply with a word search.
Crossposting of Twitter replies, my own showed here, via Moa, properly into the thread as posted in twitter. The same replies did not appear on the other instance yet, via Crossposter, but it might be missing some control switch. 🤔
It is also partly because you are new at the other instance. People tend to try to help out new users.
@freemo
I have a feeling they are more connected, a crowd of very active people. Favourites and Boosting from many other instances to the same posts I made on TW and crossposted here.
Not complaining, interesting to notice.
@freemo
This is so far the only one I know, could you recommend and suggest others?
Maybe Renato wil lsee this thread and reconsider the site's black listing. I have sent him a DM from my other instance inviting him to visit/see this thread.
