@design_RG we already have a bot that will cross post from twitter accounts. we have one or two accounts we already do that for @KatieVanStuart is one.
@freemo
Ah, thank you! I was just reading some more, found the crossposter interesting. He has qoto listed on his black list as "free-speech instance (no moderation)"
https://github.com/masto-donte-com-br/InstanceInternals/blob/master/Blocklist.md
Will look at the Katie account next.
Thats weird as we do heavily moderate. Other cross posters work im using one to cross posat to twitter.
I saw your crossposts to Twitter, it's neat. A harder job, going from here to there. with their very limited size max post length; and we enjoying much more freedom to post Long Form here in Fediverse.
That makes sense, no other way to have it there, with their smaller allowed size.
That block isnt fir a crossposting tool. It is the block list for this instance: https://masto.donte.com.br/about
@freemo
Correct, it's for that instance. The admin there is the developer and maintainer of the crosspost tool I am testing.
Ahh, shame. Many are abusive when it comes to their block lists and in no way critical of who they add. One person complains once and the list goes on forever.
I found a note pinned at the top of the crossposter tool account at his instance, and thought it might be the reason for the ban.
Bot here: https://masto.donte.com.br/@crossposter
But upon going and looking for his instance block list, it's there, so not a feedback loop control thing like the his post mentions.
Was going to ask you if I couldn't find qoto in his list.'
@design_RG Not much we can do about the intolerance of other system admins sadly.
@freemo Yes, I understand. It's part of being a federation, and I respect his right to admin his instance as he sees fit.
Pity, because it's not fair, Qoto is not a free for all, un-moderated instance.
Most people with long block lists have never even interacted with the instances they block. Its mostly just gossip that no one ever bothers to confirm. Very sad.
Sice they have qoto blocked they will never see your message sadly.
I used to polietly reach out to admins to address their concerns if they block us from M.S account.
Despite being respectful and leaving alone anyone who asked me not to message them the admins at M/S saw this as harassment and told me not to. So I dont.
@renatolond
Indeed, the "lets ban everyone at the drop of a hat" crowd has gotten pretty extremist in how they handle that ideology.
Playing with and testing the crossposter, lots of fine controls for privacy, etc. Well thought and designed interface, and it works well, as advertised.
Great work Renato!
...and upon experimenting, I realize why something did not work as expected - my fault for missing a check box, to get RT with LINKS included.
It's all there, both for original posts and for Quote (a ReTweet where someone added their own text on top of a RT original).
Done and all should work as expected now.
Tested and it works to include a mention to someone's Fediverse address - it went thru perfectly, and became live in the Fediverse as soon as cross-posted here.
Awesome tool.
I have sent the author a DM from my other account, at a different instance, thanking him for the nice tool and inviting a visit to this thread if he likes.
@freemo
I have received posts here done via Crossposter, yes.
The only barrier is a Qoto account not being accepted when configuring the crossposter. So I used my other, low profile account instead. 😉
And the posts flowed instantly after I made one in Twitter.
@design_RG You can run an instance on your computer and use it just for yourself.
A lot of people are doing that kind of bridging, it's very useful to the community.
Most bots of large news papers use this system or something similar.
@compass_straight_edge Yeah, that is possible and very interesting. If it is a limited user node, you don't need to worry about storage much, and we have pretty beefy home internet services in most developed areas.
Could be done with a spare older computer or laptop, I imagine. 😺
I like the system being so open and accessible to anyone interested.
Crossposter tested and works from birdsite to Masto, as long as your fedi account instance is not on the developer's black list.
An interesting tool, maybe could be a bot-like way to bring content we like and it is not here yet.
