Yes has been emailed many times by people with money asking to buy influence. Im sure most large instance admins have dealt with it many times... i usually just ignore the emails, nothing new, move along.

@freemo How do I envision that? 'buying influence'? What would they want to be able to do with... 'influence'?

@trinsec @freemo I would like to purchase some of this "influence", you two speak of. Does it come with extra perks such as a breakfast buffet, or, perhaps, complementary access to a live audio feed of the servers where qoto is hosted? I think listening to the clicks, boops, and fan whirs would be nice.

From the original toot, it seemed the main objection was that those seeking to gain "influence" have money. Well guess what, I'm poor as dirt cause I'm a grad student, so there gimme some of that influenza 😎 😂

@freemo Just a random thought about monetizing a instance.
I am thinking about a platform were ad providers would be bid for an ad placement and who ever wins the bid has to submit his ad for approval from 10 random instance users in top 1000 most active users.
The biding platform would be opensource and active users selection would be transparent as well as the ad approval process.
The ad placements could easily dismissed by the instance users if they found they are annoying.

I think this could be a win/win. admin could get some cash to improve the instance or fund whatever cause the instance stand for and active users have input on who is buying ads.
