I want to make sure is aware that this post was made entirely in retaliation to this post I made one hour earlier:

qoto.org/@freemo/1119087628324

As I state explicitly this is a bald face lie that we have any modifications in our code base. Our codebase is public and linked. At no point did we change anything. They are just lying in retaliation to the above post (look at time stamps to see)

A #Fediblock Notice: We are recommending servers add "qoto.org" to their Fediblock lists, and where possible add IP blocks to prevent their servers...

@Hyolobrika @freemo Most Proprietary Software would probably break as a result.

@SpaceLifeForm

Thank you. While I am sure you mean in support of what I said, rather than against it may not be clear to others based on how you worded that which side you are agreeing with :)

@SpaceLifeForm

I also want to point out, no need to beleive me. Literally anyone is welcome to open an account here and see for themselves. If a user blocks you, once the block is seen ont he next refresh, you cant see their posts anymore. There is a short window where if the server doesnt "know" you are blocked yet you can still reshare, but once the cache updates it goes away.

So literally anyone can just test it and see im telling the truth.

@freemo @jerry @paco

A Block accomplishes nothing except to keep your timeline cleaner.

Others on another instance can still boost your posts, and you may never know.

@freemo @SpaceLifeForm @jerry @paco From where I'm standing, you appear to have a personal dispute with Mr. Wild about his moderation practices.

And now, Mr. Wild is misrepresenting an outdated stack, or some other thing, perhaps, even his own personal confusion, as some kind of vague smoking gun devoid of context to drag other admins into it.

Not a good look.

@olives

Other way around. He started this by banning QOTO without cause (And justifying it) across all the servers he hosts. I called him out for lying and abusive practices. Since then a bunch of people stepped forward presenting evidence of his abuse.

He is now retaliating regarding the fact that I called him out.

@SpaceLifeForm @jerry @paco

@freemo @SpaceLifeForm @jerry @paco Hmm... Well, first off, I don't know a whole lot about this case. Seeing a bit of the discourse made me think of a few things though.

For starters, while "local servers" "sound" cool, once an Internet hostile country like the U.K. comes into the picture, it is far more uncool. Federation only really works well among people who actually believe in it for one. Even .art appears to be run by someone living there. Also, a few people there can be nosy, particularly about things which don't matter.

At first glance, it isn't obvious this server is run out of there, as it uses a .com domain. In fact, I was not aware of this, until I noticed the *other instance* he operates during the dispute between you and him.

Didn't the United States fight a revolution to escape from the control of the British crown?

He also seems more evasive than a liar.

@freemo @jerry @paco

I follow a few. I have seen things regarding the instant instances in this case in chief.

@freemo @jerry @paco

Legal. Here is a pretty clean link.

Dr. @freemo, I'm confused. We're being dinged for some sort of alleged code adultery? Or, they want to block us bc you highlighted their post about alleged code adulteration? Or is it both now?

Thanks for volunteering your time and money in running qoto.org.

Do you have suggestions on how we can help de-escalate? I've got to get back to doom-scrolling without fear of blockage.

@freemo If you aren't already on fediblock, you're not really participating in the fedi.

@freemo @ryan
Hence why I tell people it's an early-warning tool, not an end-point. Most of the stuff people post on there gets blocked by TechHub, but sometimes we don't see the need to, and certainly, we've been on there a couple times ourselves.

That's not to say you're perfect: I think Qoto has less aggressive content restrictions than we do here, but "less aggressive" doesn't mean "less moderated", just a different style. We haven't blocked it because we've never had a reason to, but we only block if we think there's going to be harassment or otherwise something that should never appear in the timeline (eg, racial slurs).

I could see another server deciding to block on content grounds, but that's a per-server decision: I'd hope they'd at least glance at your timeline first.

@ryan @freemo Wouldn't that make us a Confederation? I suppose that would sound wrong.
