@MOTT I'm not an expert on any of those but my personal favorite was Hubzilla because of their really cool migration tools.
@MOTT yea well thats what i mean, depends on what it is your looking for exactly. What features does diaspora have that makes it fit what you are looking for more? If i know what those are i can suggest software that might have similar features
@MOTT Thats a highly personal question. It depends what you want to get out of it and what features are most important to you. For me the most important is the potential for future development of the product. Anyone who joins a social media network wants to know in the future they wont have to move accounts because the tech is obsolete. Thats one of the major reasons I picked mastodon, seemed active and focused on using the latest standards.
@MOTT looks like the bulk of its activity was from 2010 - 2012, then activity slowed down but still active from 2012 - 2017 or so, then really died down in 2018. Sadly 2018 is when all the new federation standards came out and all the new software started to be implemented. So thats really a shitty time to slow down :(
@MOTT I tend to agree. Im not really sure how active diaspora development is though. Since they are still on OStatus which itself is very old, and never finished implementing it right I suspect that development on diaspora is somewhat stalled. I could be wrong though.
@MOTT Ok just did some checking. It seems while Diaspora does talk OStatus they dont adhere to the standard and thus no other servers that speak the standard can actually interact with diaspora. So until diaspora starts following the standards it seems they will have to remain in the dark to us :(
@MOTT link me to the profile itself...
@MOTT I've never tried, but lets test it, point me to a diaspora user and ill see if i can follow...
And yea mastodon is usually microblogging, thou as you know we eliminated the limit here :)
@MOTT Right, because diaspora uses obsolete standards. So it can only talk amongst themselves I think. As I understand it I could follow someone from diaspora on here, but someone from diaspora cant find me in a search cause diaspora cant federate using a standard currently employed.
@QuantumHemp I really wish i had the time to play with a new toy
@MOTT Isnt Diaspora on the same fediverse as us? So Same community? As far as I know diaspora only supports the older OStatus protocol where mastodon support OStatus, activity streams, and ActivityPub. So only difference is that mastodon can connect with more users that Diaspora cant. At least thats what I remember reading I could be way off on that. If you know the details please share.
@dansup Nice! I like it
@MOTT You are on diaspora AND here? Thats odd usually people are pretty loyal to one tech or the other. We've been seeing a good influx of people here on qoto as well. But it will be 10 months of this!
@js290 Fair, and agreed. A lot of people I know have taken it or similar tests and were surprised with the results.
holy crap. I switched over to Google's Project Fi just cause it was the easiest thing to switch to with good prices (and I hated Sprint). But I found out once I signed up that it is pretty epic in terms of features.
Aside from the really fair pricing model it links to my google voice/hangouts such that whenever i recieve a call i can accept it on either my computer or my phone.
Better yet the native voicemail feature on my phone is integrated such that I never need to dial a number to get my voicemails. I see them right on my phone as transcribed text and can play them back and delete them there. This is pretty much my dream feature I've wanted for decades!
Way to go google; I'm impressed.
@shaokahn Awww thanks! Pretty glad to have you around as well :)
@LWFlouisa fair :)
