Do you know our offline odor log?
Just joined. Somewhat new to Mastodon, not new to engineering and technology.
Just saw End game.I liked it but had a a lot of issues with it too. For starters there were about half a dozen plot holes in it. Things didnt make sense given the past movies and as such it made the whole thing harder to watch.
Also about half a dozen asshole americans already spoiled the ending for me. Seems the general rule in america is after about a week or two spoilers are free game. Hell at least my european friends who watched the movie had some respect.
Sorry for the rant but I wanted to watch the movie all through my surgery and was a pretty dick move just how many americans thought it was ok to spoil the ending.
#QOTO server update.
You may have noticed a short dwn time today. We basically finished our migration to the next larger server. The backup to the new store for backups is almost done too. Version will be bumped soon once that is done.
@wmarshall hey just an FYI. Had to delete the dick pic you posted. Nudity is fine but it **must** be marked sensative and a CW saying NSFW in it, per our ToS. In the future do this and your welcome to post nudity if you wish.
#QOTO server update.
We are upgrading to a larger server today. Epect some short downtime. After which we should be done the backup cycle in a few days and we will upgrade server versions.

Server Update #QOTO:
you all may have notied we didnt upgrade the server as scheduled. I'd like to explain why.
So basically right now I pay around $600 a month in storage fees due to the solution I picked (high redundancy) and our desire to retain and index the full fediverse. With that said I wanted to cut back costs without changing the redundancy of the backups or server speed.
As such I am migrating the server over to a new backend. Basically moving the backups to another provider and changing the way we store some stuff on AWS. We are also upgrading to the next higher tier of computers. So despite increased performance costs will be cut significantly.
The migration takes a few days as we have several terabytes of data. We felt it best to finish this migration prior to the upgrade going through. So in a few days when the upgrade finishes we will also bump the server version at that time.
@angelobottone My family is from the same region of Italy as you!
Just a friendly reminder. #QOTO has a HUGE federation footprint. We federate with the vast majority of the fediverse and store/cache ALL posts so they are searchable from around the fediverse.
I pay around $600 a month to make this possible in hosting QOTO and have donated enough to the funds to last us at least a few years ($10,000 was what I donated to QOTO's non-profit).
I am more than happy to keep footing the bill but if anyone wants to donate that is welcome too, just let me know. Regardless ill be moving some things over to S3 for better long term storage.
We had fun at the Egham Raspberry Pi Jam yesterday. We were showing off Graph Bugs: https://gitlab.com/andybalaam/graph-bugs
My favorite alloy is copper-gold alloy, here is why:
Copper is dissolved easily by acid where gold i not. Therefore if you rub any such alloy with acid you can eat away the copper leaving just the gold. This creates a similar effect as gold plating where a thin layer of pure gold is on the outside and the whole object looks like pure gold.
Of course gold is soft so even though the whole alloyed object is pretty strong thanks to the copper the thin outer layer is soft and wears away over time easily. When it goes from gold back to a rose-gold copper color just rub it down with a little more acid and it turns gold again.
Its much cheaper than pure gold but looks just as nice and is easily cleaned up. Its really win win in many ways.
Interesting note, the romans used to use this for their armor. Since they would clean it off with acetic acid from vinegar it looks like pure gold and thus was impressive on the battlefield to see. The gol shine would wear off fast from battle but was easily restored in the next cleaning.
