as of today it is no longer possible to share mastodon links on the , not even by DM, while all other links work as usual, it seems that the billionaire is unhappy with the popularity that is gaining

it seems that the ban is limited to climatejustice.social though I haven't checked every mastodon instance

@geantonicelli I doubt Musk cares at all or that Mastodon takes up any of his time. Is there any evidence for this claim of blocking links? Or just somebody from one instance saying it? People in general are very bias. If that were to happen to me, and it was true, I wouldn't post it without a screen recording showing that it's true. Makes the claim sound ridiculous without it.

@geantonicelli Oh ok, that's something then. That would also happen if the person on the other end of the DM unfollowed the person sending, I think. Or if the account became banned.

I'm just not sure, from those 2 screenshots, you can deduce that Musk is scared of Mastodon and is blocking all Mastodon links. Although, I do appreciate your 2nd update saying that it was just from one instance (one user). If he was blocking links like that, that would be a major issue in my mind.

@obi well, I thought it was general until I checked it, that's the reason of the update

@geantonicelli I tried 2 people from that domain and both would not post. I tried a few other domains, and fine. I will have to keep playing with this more. It's become interesting ha

@geantonicelli They have been blocking domains for while, gonna read more up on it, and see if I can figure out why they block these help.twitter.com/en/safety-and

@obi maybe it's because of spreading fake news though this isn't disclosed in its policy

@geantonicelli I wish we knew when it was blocked. That would help a lot. I understand twitter blocks domains that are spam, or illegal content, but I would need to see something major to explain why a whole domain of users was blocked. Maybe the domain itself is more than just mastodon?

@geantonicelli

Tried posting that link to the Birdsite just now - I got a toast message that says it’s been indentified as a dangerous link. Someone(s) has reported it, probably a climate crisis deny-er.

@obi

@marathon0 Maybe, maybe not. I don’t usually like to guess, and would love to get to the truth behind it @geantonicelli

@obi @geantonicelli Well it’s a reasonable assumption - it wooldn’t be the 1st time. Have you tried any other mastodon links that don’t originate from that instance??

@marathon0 Yup, links from all my instances. All work fine. Only other time I have seen links blocked there personally, were from certain porn sites, spam sites, and that NY Post Hunter Biden link. @geantonicelli

@obi

Ok, so there you go. I’ve experienced this happening many times with some of my posts, being that I’m in the GeoPolitics game, if people don’t like what I’m saying they’ll contact the admin of Facebook and/or Twitter etc., and all of a sudden posts won’t go through. It’s typical of social media. One just has to deal with it and move on.

@geantonicelli

@marathon0 Oh, I realize it happens, I just haven’t seen a Mastodon instance get blocked by Twitter before. I like to know the why. But that’s why we are on this instance, right. No real worries of getting what you say censored 😀 @geantonicelli

@obi

Are you kidding - Mastodon admins censor all the time! I was banned by some because I was critical of male athletes who became transgender women, and started competing against natural women, being an unfair advantage. Just saying.

@geantonicelli

@obi

Sure, but we’re only a tiny part of the Federation. Posts here get posted throughout the Fediverse, despite some instances that block us - for the wrong reasons I might add.

@geantonicelli

@marathon0 agreed, but that’s the beauty of freedom. They are free to do what ever they want on their own instance. I choose the instance that allows free expression. @geantonicelli

@marathon0 and qoto has a much further reach than maybe you think. We talked about it last night here: qoto.org/@lucifargundam/109345 @geantonicelli

@obi
I’m not denying that. But we are blocked by some instances, hopefully fewer going forward.
@geantonicelli

@marathon0 True, and agreed. I don’t think there is a better option though. Unfortunately can’t control others, and out of the ones that are blocking qoto, I’ve only heard of 2 of them @geantonicelli
