#Immigration in #Italy is a topic that is almost completely dominated by the #League: its hard line position is not only mainstream, but is also the most common in people. Major news outlet spread blatant #fakenews on the topic for years (e.g. in an attempt to convince Italian people that boats were close to Italy, they repeteadly used the headline "Boat rescued in the Sicily canal" when they were actually 10 to 20 miles away from Lybian coast: the Sicily canal is hundreds miles north west) and currently are struggling with a drop in sales. Most interesting thing, talking about immigrants is a way to increase #Salvini support. Today the #Corriere newspaper (one of the major Italian newspaper with an anti government editorial line) put news about the sink of a boat of immigrants at the 7th positio in its online (mobile) issue. In ye olde days it would be the opening story for weeks.

In a nutshell: to tackle the politics of #Salvini (more #deficit #spending, tough on #immigrants) they decide to be pro #EU "as #Macron": they even try to re-brand themselves using the name #InMarcia (#EnMarche in Italian). It turned out that Macron - to save his ass in the next election - is going to make more deficit and to be tough on immigrants (#Aquarius2). Can't wait to see the results of EU elections on May 2019
