I expected adulthood to be glamorous and interesting but so far it mostly seems to involve making my own doctor's appointments and sitting outside in 40 degree weather keeping an eye on tupperware full of beef stew because I don't want them to warm up the fridge too much but if I don't watch them an animal might get into them.
"Welcome to Magic School. Here is your schedule."
"Thanks! But..."
"Yes?"
"This is just 'Ethics' and 'Human rights' and things like that."
"Correct, that's the first year curriculum."
"Do we have to learn all this?"
"Of course! What do you think this is, software engineering?"

@Surasanji Thanks! I think they went okay :D
Oh yeah, I took some photos of the very wet London pavement on Monday. I'm presenting them here upside-down

I have two #finals back to back today--or at least I expected to. I finished the first one more than an hour early and now I'm sitting in the library with nothing to do but wonder how many mistakes I made in my hand-written java code
Well this is a breath of fresh air!

@hasmis @cambridgeport90 Keep trying, I'm sure they'll explain it when you find something of equal value to trade
@cambridgeport90 @hasmis Yes, it did help :D thank you for the advice. Sorry I didn't reply more explicitly, I'm still getting used to the social norms around here.
If you consider yourself a rational person, and people are telling you you're hurting them, someone else, or the community, then please. Interrogate your motivations.
It is so amazingly easy to draw a chain of implications that ends with something like "they deserve it" or "they're weird" or "they hurt me first." But you not only need to ask why, but you need to ask why in the many different ways. Don't just ask "why do they deserve it?" that's a loaded question. Ask "why should I punish them if they do?"
Good evening, I have some thoughts that are kind of meta to the fediverse and apply into society more broadly. One public toot, then I'll thread 🔓
So... I get torn between two principles & I think they're a reason why shared solutions like masto are so important.
Principle 1: own your shit / pay for the shit you use
Principle 2: there should be plenty of low-barrier & "free" spaces for people to congregate in some way.
This is tied to my being a librarian tbh.
I'm re-reading the #dresdenfiles and, like always, I'm moderately tempted to drop the engineering track and become a coroner (yes, I'm way more interested in being Butters than Dresden, I can't run fast enough to be a wizard).
Of course going to medical school wouldn't actually sign me up for actual magic, but a guy can dream
Okay, time for #introductions I think
I'm Alan, a college student planning to major in engineering. I dabble in code, writing, and 3d printing and I'm down to learn about anything.
Hiya! I'm new on Mastodon and I'm trying to find a good instance to settle down on. Here on Qoto for the colossal character limit more than anything.
It might take me a while to figure out what I'm going to post and find people to follow who meet my interests, so I may follow and unfollow folks erratically for a bit. Just a fair warning :D
