The dopamine hit that's been built into is huge! I'm not playing anything else right now. Well done devs I guess 😆

Another toot about . Having played and been really surprised at how much stuff there is in every room and ultimately grown bored I’m here to say that graphics details not only don’t matter but can make games worse.

Back in the day, a game like Shenmue didn’t look real at all, not every location was totally full of stuff, but it did feel like most things that were there did in some way contribute to the game in some way. With a game that’s as detailed graphically as Starfield it just feels like a lot of stuff is just there, like real life, just life crap everywhere. This makes the world less memorable, less unique, and more like reality.

But why is this a problem? Well, for one thing, it can make the game less immersive and engaging. When everything looks realistic and cluttered, it can be hard to tell what is important and what is not. It can also make the game more tedious and frustrating, as you have to search through piles of junk to find what you need or want. And it can also make the game less creative and expressive, as you have less room to imagine and interpret things in your own way.

Some might argue that graphics details are essential for creating a believable and immersive world, and that they enhance the gameplay by adding realism and variety. But I disagree. I think graphics details should serve the gameplay, not overshadow it. They should create a distinctive and consistent aesthetic that matches the tone and theme of the game, not just mimic reality for the sake of it. They should also be balanced with other aspects of the game, such as gameplay mechanics, story, music, and sound.

For example, look at older games. They have simple graphics, but they are effective and memorable. The graphics complement the gameplay, not compete with it.

So what I am saying is; I think graphics details are overrated and can make games worse if they are not done well. That's a hill I'm willing to die on too ;)

Modern can be so so cool 😎 I ended up playing with an gamer for quite a few rounds! Ended up adding each other as friends and even ended up with 3 other Ethiopian players in a squad of 4. 😀😃😀😃

I jumped back into after months of not playing. I've not forgotten the mechanics, many new levels so it feels alien and I remembered exactly why I don't play it often anymore... long waits ✋️

But still, it was fun. I think Halo Infinite and are going to be the games I jump into once a month or so just for variety.

These mechanical keyboards by look so so neat! There's an version, but the version looks way cooler to me. That red and white is just so iconic.

I found it surprising that Microsoft is planning a dedicated gaming box for 2028.

Ubiquitous is the future, most of humanity has a computer in their pocket, and the power of the cloud and connectivity is constantly improving. In the future you won't think of what device you game much, you will just game.

My first in post-nerfing of Phantom. Not bad :) But the radar thingymajig does seem to run out quicker.

Quick match to see if what the new season is about. 😄

Pre-work gaming.

Sometimes the videogame press surprises me. My assumption as an observer was that the base model Series S would be hugely popular. Sure if you just look at streamers and social media you only see very expensive setups, but in the real world people don't spend fortunes on entertainment like it's nothing. ign.com/articles/leaked-micros

I played on servers with some Twitch streamers. My God Filipino players are unforgiving in this game! No wonder that takes the Filipino scene so seriously.

The upcoming controller seems to be pulling out of the controller dark ages straight into the present.

Two key features that were sorely needed are shown here:

* Accelerometer: Gyro aiming has become essential to many for FPS games, the days of having to use a third-party controller that allows you to map the gyro to the mouse or stick will finally be over! Native gyro implementations will be possible.

* Direct to cloud: Bringing the Stadia controller experience to Microsoft cloud gaming, this is really nice to have too! While Microsoft's cloud gaming isn't anywhere near as usable as was it is slowly improving, I hope that eventually, it will catch up to where was years ago.

has stated that the and refresh will be all digital and will not have an optical drive. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I fully understand this. Using optical media feels like something we used to do a couple of decades ago. At some point, it has to stop, and I fully recognize that this creates some challenges with video game preservation. But does it really? nowadays are so dependent on servers, patches, etc… that I suspect physical media or not the game preservation efforts cannot rely on discs alone.

Having enjoyed two recently with simpler graphics ( and ) I think I now want simpler graphics. Comparatively, I also tried playing and sure it looks like your usual polished and hyper-detailed game but I didn't enjoy it or its looks much. This also has the advantage that my , , or isn't catching fire keeping up with the graphics.

So what I am saying I guess can be summarized as I value unique stylized graphics more than realistic especially when it comes with the added bonus of the game being more performant.
