Some neighbours of mine have been looking after an orphaned blackbird for nearly a month. I've had a minor role in the process, taking it under my wing on a few occasions. I also named it Marlene (after Marlene Dietrich) but, given the difficulty of sexing birds early on, it could have been Marlon (after Marlon Brando).
On Thursday, it chose freedom!
