Today #Twitter suspended accounts from Jack Sweeney, owner of the #Elonjet Twitter handle that tracked #Musk's private jet. He's created an account now on Mastodon: @elonjet

"the Solutions Journalism Network have now trained over 25,000 journalists worldwide to cover the news in ways that won’t make us sick."

"Solutions journalism…

- Describes a response to a problem and how it works.

- Seeks to draw out insights that explain success or failure.

- Presents the available evidence about the effectiveness of a response.

- Explains the shortcomings or limitations of the response."

These communications rules seem very solid.

"Communication often interrupts, so good communication is often about saying the right thing at the right time in the right way with the fewest side effects."

“After examining a sample of malware, we found out that this Trojan, although it masquerades as a ransomware and extorts money from the victim for ‘decrypting’ data, does not actually encrypt, but purposefully destroys data in the affected system,” Kaspersky’s report stated. “Moreover, an analysis of the Trojan's program code showed that this was not a developer's mistake, but his original intention.”

If you were going to make a 2023 resolution right now, what would it be?

Mine would be to eat better. No pizza in 2023! 🍕 🙅‍♂️

A very simple psyop unfolds on Twitter. CCP hackers appear to have activated a bunch of dormant accounts and are using them to flood protest-related hashtags with porn. If you look for news about protests in various cities, about half the content will be porn -- and earlier, it was much higher. This is a direct result of an entire team devoted to foreign influence operations at Twitter being gone. washingtonpost.com/technology/

I've seen a lot of white folks suggest new Black users change instances if they have a bad experience on their first Mastodon server.

Why should that be the default expectation? I understand that bad actors will always be there to create accounts and instances to harass folks.

It is incumbent on us, as anti-racist white folks, to find ways to prevent these bad actors from making our spaces unwelcoming to new Black users. It's a failure of imagination otherwise.

Journalists: There has to be a concept of overreporting. Like, we've gone over this and there's no actual new angle. We can move onto all of these other stories.

There also should be a sense that your news org specializes in certain things. You focus on the impact of crime, or positive stories, or hopeful stories.

The product itself has to have a point of view, otherwise, the oligarchy controls it but does no media buys.

Then, you're stuck in this control - agitate - engage loop.

The oligarchy spews. It agitates people. Some like it, some hate it, they post and watch. This engagement leads to bigger CPMs, so as a news org, you wait for the oligarchy to spew again instead of doing great stuff.

The only real way to inoculate your news org is to have sticky stories that people are interested in. This is tough! Gotta get into niches.

As the saying goes "the riches are in niches". That's where there you separate yourself in content and even in ad $$$.

Otherwise, you're getting bullied by whoever has the most attention and biggest check...and that might be the same person at this point. Not good!

"If you’ve ever wondered how social media is changing our society, we’re finally seeing a debate that’s not just a bunch of hot takes. Professors from the world’s leading universities are now weighing in, taking into account a vast body of studies to draw conclusions about the actual impact of Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, etc. on the way we live."

If you're upset about the Twitter news below, here's what to do:

1. . It's a simple protest that will work if enough people do it

2. Use another app to post to Twitter. I use Buffer free edition. It's a compromise, but it also leaves you off of their platform.

3. Don't like 'em? Block 'em.

4. They got you mad! Don't retweet anything from them. Use an image instead. Remember to algorithms, ENRAGEMENT = ENGAGEMENT.
