I will literally try every possible social media to avoid using Twitter, so Mastodon here we go. I am a researcher and I love studying biological fibres, but even more I love rearranging biological data collected by doctors, biologists and zoologists. This is why I am working on a bio data-collection app.
It has been a hard week at the new job. It is still the right decision but I am out of my comfort zone and being challenged... Peak growth stuff. Short term solution to the stress and discomfort; vodka, chips and dinosaurs (Fallen Kingdom today)

I have done a lot of teaching in low-socioeconomic areas and am pretty good with student care issues that can relate to that situation. I learned today about students at the other end of the money scale. Affluent neglect is something I had never heard of but quite common at my school (it has boarders). Not sure what to look for so I will have to ask questions #AffluentNeglect @edutooters

Man, chemphobia is so frustrating.
Any compound that ionises to yield either H+ or OH- can alter pH.
Vitamin C is an acid (ascorbic acid). Vinegar is an acid (acetic acid).
Baking soda is an alkali (sodium hydrogen carbonate).
Anything you eat goes through your stomach which contains hydrochloric acid at a pH ~1.5-2, yet blood pH is ~7.4 (when healthy)
So turns out I am probably going to need a work laptop. I am however, now living in Thailand and really want to stick with familiarity and use an Australian layout keyboard. Import tax on this would be huge... So... Anyone know how to work the system to get an Aussie laptop in and NOT have to pay crazy fees on top? Ideally not a second hand one (I know could probably get one of those on forums/markets) Any @edutooters got ideas?

Hehe, Donald Duck Pocket 151 (Germans know it as Lustiges Taschenbuch, not sure if the series are the same as our Dutch ones, but they both have the same Italian artists) has references to a game the kids play which seems very similar to Warhammer. In this case they call it Warbanger.

First day at my new teaching job. It is 45 minutes of meetings and then going shopping with all the new staff for house stuff and groceries. As I have been in Bangkok for a month, I am wondering if I can skip the shopping part as I already have the flat set up. #work

@dMjolnir96 I like to add a "view results" placeholder option to my polls, so that people who are not addressed in them don't end up tilting the results.
Hopefully Mastodon will add a way to show results without having to vote, that would be very useful, and I think some fediverse platforms might even have it already.
