@freemo @Gargron @khird @trinsec I’ve just arrived, all I’ve seen are gentle STEM people. Maybe there are security issues I’m missing but such rigidity feels a little like the Monty Python, “we’re all individuals” scene. https://youtu.be/M5Flr-hQHcY
@freemo @trinsec @khird I like this wording, People should be free to respectfully ask each other “why do you believe that?” Likewise, when asked why we believe something, we should be encouraged to respectfully offer grounds. Free speech does not require shared beliefs. No conversation would be needed if we all thought alike! It rather requires respectful questioning, expression, and listening. We can embrace high standards both for openness and decorum. Indeed, these ideals are linked.

I don't know much about mastodon yet. So I don't know what is technically feasible.
Automatically allowing any new instance to begin unblocked seems like a problem, because the nanoinstances devoted to harassment can set up and then once blocked respawn with new names at will.
I could post some ill-informed suggestions of how to solve that, but I'll leave it to people who actually know things. What can we do?
Fantastic paper describes the bias that may arise *from* #regularisation in a multi level model.
Simple correction the authors propose only works if there is *no* treatment-confounder feedback(see: https://go-bayes.github.io/b-causal/posts/confounder-treatment-feedback/conf-out-feedback.html)
@f2harrell has a great post on the problems with changes scores:
