@taylorlorenz The instance I'm on has the quote-toot feature available. It renders as "QT: [stuff you quoted here]" on servers that do not offer it. If it's that important, you can always join an instance that offers QT as a feature.

@hughashton I have accounts on qoto.org, mstdn.social, and mastodon.social. I did not find an edit button in Toot! for any of those instances. I also don't find an edit button in the web interface for any of those instances. If there are any servers with custom edit buttons, I'm not aware of them.

@hughashton Hello! I do not think Mastodon has an "edit button," per se. I also use Toot!, and when I tap into a toot that I have composed, I see a three-dot menu icon just to the left of the "Reply" button.

In that menu, one of the options is "Delete & re-draft." That option will delete your toot and put its contents back in your composition box. You can edit it there and re-upload. *This will change the timestamp on your toot.* So, if you start editing content from months ago, be advised that it'll be added back at the top of your timeline.

Happy Wednesday Everyone! ✨

Just a quick reminder that to #reblog or #retoot will boost your favourite #posts and help grow creators, whereas #liking a post just lets the author know you appreciate their #content. Likes are always appreciated but please #boost where possible!

Let’s keep growing this #community and get #reblogging

@TheLabAndField It also means that industrial scientists need not apply. Most of us publish patents more than journal articles, which don't count. The other major demographic that gets excluded are students who are just starting their careers in science.

@jann @kensanata@octodon.social Right. Let me say this again. They *were* federated in the past, but they are not *anymore.* I have the impression that Jester was harassed about some security decisions he made and voluntarily defederated to cool down the animosity.

@InvincibleMoose Yeah. I learned pretty young that you have to restrict your vocabulary to fit in pretty much anywhere. I didn't learn it early enough to avoid being bullied in school, but I did manage to fly under the radar professionally. It's an occupational hazard of being well-read.

@kensanata@octodon.social @jann *was* federated, but it (voluntarily) isn't anymore because it blocks IPs from nations known to conduct misinformation and influence campaigns in the West. (Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan and Syria)

@waded I hesitate to ask if these were all broken in the same incident. 😂

@obi @angelobottone The anti-choice side was also a play for votes. They didn't expect to actually be successful, so now they need something else to run on. See also: LQBTQIA+ persecution & a campaign to criminalize the possession and use of contraception.

@mcneely in the house, apparently. Not altogether surprising given the way we were raised.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

What I love about #masto is that I've discovered more artists, photographers, writers, poets, historians, archaeologists, heritage experts etc. in the last five days than I have in 10+ years on all the other platforms combined thanks to all the introductions and sharing going on. I always felt that social media was an obligatory part of the job, now it feels like a place to discover a creative world beyond my own field.

After a couple of days on #Mastodon I’m very impressed & excited to be part of this growing community! #mastodonmigration

My only humble suggestion is that it needs more #tardigrades aka "water bears."

Tardigrades have survived every mass #extinction on Earth since they evolved about a 1/2 billion years ago. There are ~1,300 known species. And millions of years from now, they won’t even notice we’re gone.
