Here's me finally figuring out that I don't have to set up an account on every single instance whose local timeline I want to check out. ๐
With the increased character limit and Markdown support, the native QOTO posting interface is going to be enough for most people, unless they’re specifically looking for a blogging platform.
I just can’t see how throttling back the character limit here in order to force people to use a different platform would be a good thing for anyone except that other platform.
Maybe we’re just dealing with a bit of a language mismatch here and talking at cross-purposes. If @farooqkz wants to boost Writefreely as a service to use in addition to QOTO, that’s fine. If the idea is to cut QOTO’s features in order to force people to use Writefreely, that’s not fine, unless @freemo decides he wants to go in that direction.
@farooqkz And? If that suggests that the writefreely posts shows directly up in the timeline, then the problem is already solved by qoto's increase...

Boy, was I wrong. I found social media, and then a second wind at my sails in my 70s! I made my Broadway debut at 78, and Iโll make my London debut at 85.

Here's my (draft) attempt to do that -- highlighting the amazing contributions of the early community (much of which has never been properly credited) without whitewashing the past.

In my three weeks of being a self-appointed Walmart greeter here on #Mastodon, I've noticed people looking for a connection. Just someone to follow them.
So I follow them. Why? Because it costs me nothing, other than time to say hello and click the "+" button.
Many of these folks are shy. Often they're not big posters anyway. So they're not crowding my Home timeline.
And when they do post? 
So cool. And I think, "There's my new friend! I wonder what they have to say?"

Iโm #thankful for all of the volunteers running all of the #Mastodon instances out there who are trying to build safe, positive, productive communities. Who willingly give of their own time in addition to their family, work, and other obligations. Who put people before profit. Who believe that when we build bridges and connect with one another, we can accomplish anything together.
