Book review: I recommend "The Sea of Tranquility" by Emily St. John Mandel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_of_T. I loved the characters and the feeling of tranquil disconnection throughout the book. I read about half of it while camping, sitting in my comfy backpacking chair with this view, which is how I recommend you read it :). I would guess that fans of more character-driven, literary sci-fi would appreciate this more than hard-core sci-fi fans. I didn't really care for the sci-fi story as much as the little vignettes in the lives of individual characters, maybe similar to the early sections of "Cloud Atlas".

I'm a #neuroscientist in Singapore using #zebrafish to understand appetite control and gut-brain signaling pathways. Check out my lab at www.carolineweelab.com. My other hobbies are hanging out with my two cats, rock climbing, and swimming, but the former is to me wayyy more fun than the latter two :blobcat_pat: New to this app and still rather confused, but happy to try out something new!

#introduction

Hello! I'm a professor at Cardiff University (UK) in the School of Psychology, with interests in several areas inc. neuroscience, social sciences, and science and the media. But my main interest is the field of metascience: the science of science.

I'm involved in a range of #openscience initiatives that are making research more transparent reliable, inc. most notably Registered Reports. I've always enjoyed sci comm & from 2013-2018 I was a blogger on the Guardian Science network.

Seems like the #NeuroscienceMigration is in full swing so I'll do a quick #introduction. I'm a cognitive neuroscientist interested in biological mechanisms of disorders of memory and cognition, especially in aging and dementia. I love acetylcholine, prefrontal cortex, data analysis, R, and musical theater.

@somedonkey I would love to hear your thoughts some time on AI-generated art, why you're not afraid, and whether you think it could be useful or harmful to illustrators like yourself. I've spent some time reading papers on the algorithms, and agree that you have nothing to fear, but I'm curious to learn your perspective.
PS this drawing is beautiful, I love it!

@tsizzle_ @giorgiogilestro PS I don't think DALL-E understands how many wings Drosophila has, but then I've also seen some images with humans with far too many fingers, so maybe that is just a limitation of its "bag of words" approach to the world.

@tsizzle_ @giorgiogilestro I love these!! Here's one I made a couple weeks ago for a presentation. I'm working toward having all my slides be AI-generated.

I guess it's time for an : Hi, I am an primarily doing , mostly for . www.somedonkey.work

I am interested in , and . Happy to discuss design and how to improve .

#introduction time!

I'm a data scientist with a focus in machine learning and experimentation. Currently, I'm at GitHub working with the Education, Communities, and Open Source Software org.

I'm likely to be found #sewing, #gardening, or insisting my pet #rats are the cutest animals alive.

An #introduction, in the form a little thread about our recent papers.

But first: we are a #Biodiversity lab, working with #MachineLearning, #Supercomputers, and good old-fashioned markers on a glass wall (yes, we do have one of these, and yes, it is as awesome as you think).

More importantly, we are an #OpenScience, people-over-productivity, inclusive lab, with very public values: poisotlab.io/values/

Quick #introduction: 👋 I'm Kakani, a #bioengineer working in the deep #ocean, living a childhood dream to find life forms that we can learn from and be inspired by. I get to work with some phenomenal people in MBARI's Bioinspiration Lab. I'm also a National Geographic #Explorer, and I'm grateful to share our work with audiences I could never have imagined.

I'm also into #jellyfish #snotpalaces #lasers #imaging #AI #activetransportation #cycling #climatetech #outdoors.

I ❤️ #kirindog.

@WalterMontalvo Yes, we track a bunch of points from videos of the flies using deep learning. This is some data from a dataset we developed last year: aicrowd.com/challenges/multi-a
Here's a link to the tracking software we're developing, if you're interested:
kristinbranson.github.io/APT/

@giorgiogilestro Yes, no need to use this if someone has something better, literally, just entered your prompt into dall-e and downloaded :)

A thing I plotted while trying to get all my rotations to go in the right directions.
For those interested, it is tracked points on a fruit fly, all aligned by the thorax -- the big v shape at the origin. The head of the fly is the ^ that is mostly pointing up. Most of the other lines show the flies' legs, which go all over.
