As I understand it, this Mastodon instance is focused on tech stuff, not politics. there are other Mastodon servers more suitable for general topics and politics. I'm not a moderator or anything like that. I'm just a user looking for refuge from the culture wars in my interest for tech.

@lsitongia this is my understanding, and the local timeline seems to support that.

Qoto is for people who work (or worked) in a STEM field, but it’s content has very few limitations.

The thumbnail says, "An inclusive free speech instance. All cultures and opinions welcome. Explicit hate speech and harassment strictly forbidden."

You'll find that most of the content is about science and tech because that's what geeks like to talk about, but it's not limited to that. When we discuss other things, the level of discussion tends to be higher and more facts-based than what you'd typically find elsewhere.

Since I'm retired, I'm into many more things now than just tech, so I like to post about those things. But even when we talk about, e.g., cultural topics, it is often from a science/tech perspective.

For example, here's a thread I started about racial bias in a movie where the discussion ended up exploring chromosomal haplogroups, north-African prehistoric migratory patterns, and Glaive style weaponry in the New Kingdom Era. You’d be hard pressed to find that level discussion in many other instances.

@lsitongia Focused on science/tech, yes. But you can still talk about politics here. It's just not the main focus, is all. I still talk about games here. ;)
