TIL you can't just have a dog euthanized without a "medical reason"
@mathlover@qoto.org @lurker@qoto.org Might be UK, you have to have a medical reason to put down an animal. It applies to all animals, not just dogs or cats. I had a kitten with FIP, so vet and us knew he will die. Even then you cannot expedite the process until there is a sufficient reason to believe that animals quality of life was negatively affected by the illness, as in he is in pain and distressed.
@mathlover USA.. although responses in this thread make me think maybe it's not as prohibited as I thought. You know if he put it down himself or was able to take it in to the vet and have it done professionally?
@lurker In the USA, per a vet I just asked, you can euthanize a dog without a medical reason
@mguhlin oh nice, guess I should have looked closer
@lurker Which country is this? Because in my state a decade ago a friend's father put a pregnant dog down simply out of convenience
