@augustus @aseem The difference is that one uses words and the other uses violence. If information ministries are in war with each other it allows people to pick which perspective they prefer (i.e think for themselves). The more point of views there are the more freedom there is in that selection. For the police it's just who ever has the biggest stick makes the rules. Freedom is decreased because now there are more sets of rules and a higher incentive for using it to increase an individual or organizations power.

@augustus @aseem I mean I don't see how there can be rule of law without the government having a monopoly over police. Otherwise don't you essentially have a bunch of different governments fighting for control?

@augustus All of his stuff is so heavy on the right hand. His etudes seem to be written to teach playing his music rather than the piano more generally. Fair enough I guess.

@freemo Holy fuck that's expensive. I looked it up and that's twice as expensive as eating silver but without the added benefit of turning blue.

@augustus How could someone who wrote so many mazurkas be 100% French?

@joey_zozo They are definitely fascinating. I wish that I've had more of an opportunity to study fractals formally.

I recently decided that my PhD program was a massive sunken cost trap. I've become entrenched in theory, but I'm not moving any closer to a career. I don't want to be an academic, someone who is just publishing to publish and not producing anything actually worthwhile. So I have to leave to prevent my self from rotting in the university's putrid still waters.

@Lwasserman @ramob It's good to know at least some of these are real.

When I'm going through all theses companies' shitty websites and filling out their identical job application forms I am actually applying to anything? Are these all just a front to pretend like there is an open hiring process?

@coolboymew You've probably never heard this before, but it good.

covid rant

Holy fuck, I wish people would stop telling the daily covid bullshit that they read from shitty new articles on the internet that are incorrectly (as always) reporting on swarm of journal articles shat out on the various arxives by half baked academics hoping to capitolize on the recent trend to grab some of that sweet sweet grant money for them and there buddies. If one more person says ANYTHING to me about the long term effects of covid I may explode. WE DON'T KNOW YET AND I ALREADY HAVE READING TO DO WITHOUT READING SOMEONES HALFBAKED SEIR MODELING PAPER TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHATS REAL OR NOT.

@freemo In most uncountable probability space every complete actualization (e.i event with one element) has probability zero. There are many things that can modeled like this that would occur in a persons daily life. So it's reasonable to think of a persons life as a continuous stream of events of probability zero. A continuous stream of realizations that one could have been completely confident would not occur.

@why @lebronjames75 @SpudsRudeEye Almost nothing happens in stalker, its almost entirely Russians saying cryptic and sad things and walking slowly through an abandoned chemical factory. If you don't know what you're in for it can be an extremely boring and confusing film.

Is there a reason the finguring here is so fucky? Is it just to avoid repeating notes with the same finger?
