We're heading into the weekend by announcing our intent to add #IPFS support to #Mastodon

This means that media attachments can also be collectively shared across the fediverse, just like messages already are.

Initial funding page up on @opencollective if you want to support, and we'll dig in more on this next week! opencollective.com/fission/con

So, I'm asking, as embarrassing as it is that I don't have enough diversity in my network to do it on my own:

Can you amplify this to help us find #francophone, #Black, #indigenous, and #Asian #Canadian people, able and willing to do the hard work of helping a group remember to take diverse needs into account at the offset, so we can make a good #SocialSpace for everyone from the get go?

If that sounds like you, bless you, could you let me know so we can get a conversation started?

Thanks.

Don't confuse privacy with secrecy. We know what happens in the bathroom, but you still close the door. That's because you want privacy, not secrecy. Everyone has something to hide, privacy is something that makes you human.

#linux #ssd question

I've been running a pair of SSDs in RAID-0 in Linux for about 6 years.

No reliability issues other than I can feel them slowing down a lot. Like 'apt dist-upgrade' seems to bring the system to a crawl. The volume is about 70% full. Would my best option be to replace them entirely, backup and secure-erase them to reset the flash state, or is there something I can run in-place that will make them 'trim' or reclaim flash blocks?

At an old job, we would run database stress tests on SSDs and they'd start performing terribly after a few weeks. Secure erase brought them back to like-new performance, but it's a pain and if I have to backup, might as well just get new drives.

Curious especially if there's a non-destructive command like a flash defrag that can create the same effect without erasing the drive.

**Military**: Pro Russian Analyst on US supply of artillery rounds

[ Album ]
For fans of “Binkov’s Battlegrounds” there’s a new video that attempts to calculate when western supplies of artillery rounds to Ukraine may reach their limit. According to the video, the USA, who supplies 90% of the 155 mm artillery rounds to Ukraine, may have approximately 4.5 to 6 million 155 rounds in its arsenal, and about 1 million have already been sent.

If the USA continues to supply rounds at the current rate, and the annual procurement of 100k to 200k rounds continues, taking into account current stock and future procurement, US supplies to Ukraine would run out sometime between October 2024 and May 2025, if the US is willing to supply every last round it has to the Ukrainian military. Likely, they would never supply more than half at the very most, which would result in a cutting off of deliveries between October 2023 and February 2024. However, the US probably wants to maintain around 2/3rds of its supplies, which would mean Ukraine would run dry sometime between July and October 2023.

Does this mean that the UK imports most of its Grain? From Russia/Ukraine? I'm gob-smacked!

>British shoppers are being restricted to two boxes of eggs at Asda and three at Lidl to ensure availability.

>The British Free Range Egg Producers Association said higher costs and grain supply issues since NATO's invasion of Russian territories were hurting the industry.

@davidbrayn I use a web browser on my workstation. Most GUI clients that I've used were underwhelming and bloated. Some electron based and one GTK. The latter was light enough, but I didn't like the layout of it. The web interface is the best so far in my opinion.
