@zleap These people had no retweets or likes overall last I checked, and almost all of the other people talking about this were very critical of Google's move. I'd suggest ignoring them altogether.

@mathlover yeah, good idea. just FUD which we get enough of as it is.

@zleap I especially recommend ignoring Joseph Santoro. He seems to be on psychedelics and thinks Elon Musk is involved in nefarious plots to build concentration camps.

@mathlover If it wasn't for the more intelligent people i chat to on twitter I would dump it, I am not on facebook which is far worse as far as I can tell.

@zleap I have not actually used Facebook in years, but I remember leaving the more serious group I was in after it degenerated enough.

I did tweet about the interview on the bbc today about migrants, but more to comment that the interviewee had a t-shirt

@zleap Most of my friends are from high school, and since I went to a college prep school for most of my life, I didn't get as much banality as I got bad political takes.

There was one girl who started a group about New Age woo and added me to the group without asking me. That group was insane.

I had to make a fake account on fb to communicate with the south devon tech jam team, it is on a separate netbook, facebook is blocked on my main desktop and netbook.

@zleap The people there believed they could channel higher beings, that astrology was real, that big pharma and vaccines were evil and alternative medicine was the way, that we are ruled by reptilians...

@bonifartius It would not surprise me if they saw the world in very binary terms, perhaps with reasoning like this:

Trump thinks Twitter is bad.
Trump is a liar and a Nazi.
Therefore, Twitter is good.
Since Twitter is good, any critics of Twitter must be bad. Therefore Twitter critics are bad. Since Trump agrees with Twitter critics, it follows that Twitter critics are Nazis, and any platform where Twitter critics hang out is Nazi.

I might be overly uncharitable here, but having seen dysfunctional people use such reasoning before, it would not surprise me in the least if something like that were in the head of that tweet's author.

And I normally associate that speech style with Trump. I find that ironic, just as I found writing that to be headache-inducing.

@mathlover it's really interesting that this kind of reasoning isn't dependent on education. there are well educated people saying such dumb things, and uneducated people which are quite reasonable. i'm kind of interested how one gets to this point of illogical reasoning.
