A great special issue of JAID on "Rethinking Multimedia Design for Learning" with articles by Mayer and others extending this space. We have one on mediating artifacts, invoking some Vygotsky and CHAT to discuss political, social, and ethical dimensions of #edtech and learning materials.

#Introduction

I am Dr. Kees de Groot, Executive Director of Rhode Island Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement program (#RIMESA) at the University of Rhode Island. I will be monitoring this account together with the project assistant.

We work with middle and high #schools in the Providence and urban ring areas to support more underrepresented #students in pursuing #STEM majors and careers.

#Learning is social. #Democracy is social. They depend on learned skills that we may not be teaching very well. If we don't know how to think together, argue together, and collaborate to solve problems and make things better for ourselves and our communities, we are lost. #edchat #edutooter #education

Carl Sagan passed away #OTD in 1996. In his final interviews he left us with two messages that are even more relevant today: one emphasizing the importance of a science literate public, the other a warning about how hard it is to extract ourselves when we’ve been conned.

Greetings, fellow Mastodonians! Twitter refugee here. Interested in music, writing, reading, news, foreign policy, sensible government, and friendly conversation. Have a most excellent holiday season!

My daughter's HS science teacher is insisting that their lab reports be written in the passive voice - "Data was collected..." because it "sounds more scientific". I spend a ton of time trying to break my students of this habit.

Here's just one resource I use to convince students otherwise, from Scott Hotaling's excellent "Simple rules for concise scientific writing".

I’ve been preparing to possibly stop using Twitter for quite awhile. I set up and started infrequently using a Mastodon account back in 2017.

If you are having discussions in your spaces regarding and - maybe this slide deck can help. I have assembled a bunch of resources in a pretty decent structure. As I find things, they get added - time to get those chats started!

@adamdavidson

Adam is absolutely right. Journalism needs to take ownership (finally).

Journalists need to invest in the fediverse. The fediverse will help journalists thrive, and the fediverse will thrive because of journalists.

Nobody has the luxury of waiting. Universities, brands, companies, and journalists need to move to the fediverse now. Or get in line for your AOL keyword.
