Allow me to share this perspective as a Panamanian who was raised in the Canal Zone and then came to the United States when he was 10 years old to attend private, Catholic schools until high school graduation. It was a sheltered upbringing, by design of course by loving parents. Still, I want to be clear about something often taken for granted.

I cannot support hatred of individuals. I do not accept skin color or LGBTQ+ as a reason for poor treatment of other people. This has never been more needed, especially in education and online spaces like this one, given the level of hate and bias.

Being who you are should not result in blind bias or hatred. I reject that and the frames that people have adopted that result in such hate.

As a Latinx who grew up in the Republic of Panama and then Texas, I have my own perspective.

My own identity as a cisgender (he/him/his), a bilingual/bicultural speaker, a person caught between two cultures, I have not suffered the slings and arrows of bias, prejudice that I can only ally with, including + .

Since I speak and write in Standard English, I enjoy a level of white privilege due to my skin color (from my Swedish father) and my last name (“Guhlin” is Swedish, not Latino), I know that my life experience does not give me the authority to speak in more certain terms.

So, I offer my perspective in this space in a tentative way, and hope that I can learn with and from others.

Ready to adapt more Stoic techniques to evidence-based strategies? Applying reason to and thinking deeply about life lies at the core of Stoic . Yet, the application of reason, also known as , can be difficult. Let’s look at heuristics that can help. Adapting Techniques: Critical Thinking, Part 2

Wanted to do a to @dougholton for his leadership and support in maintaining the list to get educators connected to each other. Thank you, Doug. @edutooters

A bit of reflection...

When I created the EduTooters Unite! (tinyurl.com/joinedutooters), my hope was to connect with more educators, and to set up a "lifeboat" for those trying to find their way on in the midst of crazy .

Doug wasn't afraid to step up and help spread the word, both on Mastodon and Twitter. I'm' also grateful to whomever suggested/originated the hashtag.

I should have paid more attention, but to be honest, I made the EduTooters group in a rush before running out the door to get breakfast with my wife. I would have paid more attention to calling the new group @edutooter than @edutooters which is the group that ended up with more people.

Oh well, live and learn. There's still going to be a lot of folks coming over, and I hope all of us on and @edutooters can continue to help folx get connected.

I am now thinking of starting different groups that are focused on / , but that may be unnecessary. What do you think?

Do you use concept mapping tools? Maybe pen-n-paper work well for you, but sometimes, you may want to represent something in digital format. Lots of great tools for that. here's a roundup of some of my favorites!

Ok, I know cybersecurity awareness was last month, but..it remains important. As a tech director, one of the challenges was assisting staff in understanding how to safeguard sensitive data. Now, it often seems about surveilling people. Cyber protection is a basic tenet of digital citizenship. Why aren’t we doing more to empower children and staff to protect sensitive data? blog.tcea.org/cyber-protection @edutooters

Oops, I moved to @mguhlin from hcommons.social. Just an FYI @edutooters Hope that's not a big inconvenience for anyone! 🙂
