@uweremer It's a species of Jerusalem cricket according to Google Lens. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_cricket
@ambihelical thanks. Nice tool.
I confirm that I like the rules of this Mastodon server, qoto.org. I find it deplorable that some servers block it because it doesn't block other servers. Please let me know if there's more to it.

@tool_man this came up in the context of roasts. A roast doesn't work if you don't like or even love the target of the roast. I think it applies more generally even though obviously, there is some good satire about people who aren't loved much at all. The difference between satire and simple mockery is that it's fair. For example, mocking Donald Trump's hairstyle works if you're a friend of his because in the end it's a way to show that there are more important things about him that you appreciate. On the other hand, if you obviously dislike everything about him, mocking his hairstyle comes off as mean and unfair because it's not something that should matter.
@parsiya I need to learn Rust, I want a concise guide and this looks perfect.
Christmas lichen (Cryptothecia rubrocincta) from Myakka River State Park, Florida. Apparently they don't produce apothecia (fruiting bodies with spores) like most lichens. Reproduction is instead via isidia, surface outgrowths that contain the partnering fungal hyphae and algae. #lichen #lichens #fungus #fungi #nature #biology #Christmas
Mushroom genetics: two species of fungi that undergo "somatic meiosis" i.e. genetic recombination in the mycelium rather than just in the mushroom. https://www.mykoweb.com/articles/GeneticIndividualsMosaics.html
@andrei it seems that the easiest way to have a dedicated column would be via a hashtag. If every post had an #artbots hashtag (or other sufficiently unique hashtag), this would work. Here's a screenshot showing a dedicated column for the #art hashtag.
Other solutions I'm aware of would involve more bots.
@andrei ok, thanks. I'll share what I find out!
@andrei I'm looking for a way to dedicate a column to the art bots in Mastodon's advanced web interface, like I have in Tweetdeck.
Unlike on Twitter, we can't reuse a list someone else made because Mastodon lists are private. I would like to save the effort of maintaining the list myself, or if I do, make sure other people can use it. Do you provide something equivalent, like a bot that boosts (retweets) all the content posted by the art bots? We could then follow that user or make it into a list of one, and make that list a column in the advanced web interface. https://arthaus.social/public/local would be good except that I don't know how to follow it without joining the arthaus.social server. Even if I joined, I wouldn't want to pollute the feed with my own content anyway. Do you have a suggestion?
@SandyKendell thanks!
How can I follow someone given their account URL? For example, I landed on https://arthaus.social/@andrei from the web and I want to follow him. The page asks me to log in. It doesn't make sense because my account is with another server with which I'm already logged in, of course.
@SusanAMcK Mastodon has a Tweetdeck-like mode. Go to "preferences" and enable "advanced web interface".
