@meine lot of nice options, but can't quite get any of them to do what I want. And the problem is I actually want it to do less than what it (cindent) is already doing, and only slightly differently. The default are very complicated, and the customization options seem arbitrary/opinionated.
Everyone seems to just submit to the will of even more complicated language specific plugins, but I am reluctant. I want something simple and generic.
@sir yes, we must all understand this fundamental truth. In snake oil industry, it's not the oil sellers or the oil buyers, it the bottle makers who are at fault. When Doodle company's snake oil has best bottles how can our actual medicine(tm) ever compete??
@sim
Yeah, very difficult to do on purpose, and can never be exactly the same. Still can experiment in that direction. Maybe expose yourself to the language in some comfortable way daily, just listen and repeat the phrases you like. Don't translate words, only sentences/phrases, and only after you're somewhat comfortable saying them, as kind of a substitute for (acceleration of) contextual clues/explanations. Learn reading/writing only after getting more or less comfortable with speech. Difficult without a tutor/friend who will practice it with you diligently, but on the other hand can take as long as you like if you can get into the "don't care" (in it for the lulz?...!) mindset.
For me it was circumstantial, so I'm lucky that didn't need to motivate myself in any way, but I certainly never cared much about the language itself or knowing it. Initially I would even avoid it whenever I could, being thoroughly convinced that I will never understand it.
@sim
I probably phrased it the worst way possible, but what I mean is even that is too much. Learning your first language you don't care what it all means, or whether you understand or are understood. You just listen and repeat and later indirectly discover meaning. You are also absolutely disinterested in its structure, it is not curious or fascinating, you view it in the most benign and primitive way (as in some subconscious part of your mind it actually is unremarkably simple to you). Now, it is of course difficult to revert back to a mindset of a child as an adult, not enough patience (of your own and your peers), but it's still a useful attitude to have. There should be no goal, and you should be all sorts of wrong and pointless and not care in the slightest.
@thatbrickster @dinoallosaurus
@sim @thatbrickster @dinoallosaurus you can't learn a language if you want to know it, you can only learn it if you are ok with not knowing it. Even with your native, from your very first words to the last, there were many and will always be some things you didn't and will never know, you just always have been and will be ok with it. WTF did I just write...
@meine you say whitespace is not text?!
*ascii has entered the chat*
it's not for me it's for your eyes, cause the alternative is:
while(true) if(auto x = get(); !x) stuff(x);
else break;
can:
while( auto x = get() ) stuff(x);
can't:
while( !(auto x = get()) ) stuff(x);
someone write a proposal ToT
Why is it so hard to set up basic auto-indent in vim? Am I stupid or something? I just want basic indentation for custom blocks and no lining-things-up-in-columns cruft.
#CellWriter is a #handwriting based #input system.
CellWriter is an input method where the user draws characters into boxes which are interpreted as text. CellWriter learns the user's handwriting as they write, becoming more accurate over time. Once some text is written it can be sent to the currently open program as if the keyboard typed it. CellWriter also provides an on screen keyboard.

@freemo I said why own the 3rd factory, you said why federal owns state, I said it don't really own, there is nuance and rules. If you decide to not give away the 3rd factory and instead build a hierarchy, why go for monarchy/feudalism, instead of all the other things we have collectively arrived at as superior. Why not at least mimic it and experiment with it and improve upon it? You are a perfect testing ground. Because you don't want to build anything like that you just want to be the king of your little kingdom.
@freemo There are many mechanism in place to challenge and limit the authority. It's not perfect but at least that's the point and the goal. If anything people in doing business have more room for experimentation since the stakes are lower (relatively). Where are all the democratic, socialist, anarchist, capitalist or satanist(wait... no!) corporations? Why are they all monarchism/feudalism and considered good(tm)?
"The truth is consolidated power in one proficient director can and does have advantages". Is that the truth or just everyone's wet dream? Do we approve of the benevolent dictators because it's right, or because we each want to be one?
@freemo I would say we have devised and continue to devise various mechanisms to regulate and improve the hierarchical power structure in governments, so I don't see why the same does not apply here. If anything it should serve as a precedent and a model for people to follow and improve upon.
@freemo there has got to be limits to what one person can manage. If you build one factory I guess you can manage it yourself. The second one? ok, but the third you gotta trust to someone else (or several other people). Now why not fully trust them and instead maintain some sense of ownership, reserving the right to close the factory and fire them at any moment, I don't get. Especially when your "investment" is not even in your actual field of expertise. "I wanna be king" is the only explanation I can think of.
