Just because queer people and other folks built the fediverse or its protocol to avoid some kinds of harassment and violence doesn’t mean that the fediverse cannot be home to other kinds of violence or marginalization.

Put simply, a queer history does not preclude a present that enables structures of oppression. I want to be specific about this because much of the violence I’ve experienced in queer spaces is at the hands of white queers.

I couldn't find anything about this in English.

But summarizing it, the article says that during the pandemic lockdowns in Santiago de Compostela, there was a chance to study pavement temperature. It was discovered that in places where the grass and moss was not removed, the temperature was up to 20 degrees lower than in places where it was.

More moss and grass make our physical spaces more liveable in these times of #ClimateCrisis.

The first black child ever allowed to attend a white school is only 68 years old now.
White parents pulled their children from school. White teachers refused to teach her.

This wasn’t a million years ago. /1

Now Musk is saying if Apple and Google block Twitter on their app stores, presumably for failure to moderate hate speech and for safety, he will just create a new phone.

So it’s going well, right?

Another Black person played Mastodon "instance roulette" and lost.

We need a Mastodon instance Green Book pronto or this ain't gonna work.

This is starting to feel like the WW2 Dunkirk evacuation where the Black and Indian Commonwealth soldiers were abandoned on the beach...

Ahhhh good ol' american thanksgiving, the most hypocritical of holidays.

I’m sad about Twitter. It feels like having to move house to a new town. A more isolated town. And then there’s ominous music and suddenly I’m investigating a murder.

48,000 UC academic workers are still striking for a living wage!

This strike isn't just about how unlivable grad student and postdoc salaries are in California--it's about fairly compensating highly skilled workers for our labor. UC works because we do!

You can support these efforts from afar by donating to the UC-UAW strike hardship fund: givebutter.com/uc-uaw

@queerornithology folks this may be great for you!

🚨 BIG DATA RELEASE 🚨 We are beyond excited to announce the release of our Brain Wide Map of neural activity during decision making! It consists of 547 Neuropixel recordings of 32784 neurons across 194 regions of the mouse brain 🐭🧠

All these recordings were performed in a distributed fashion in 12 different labs, spanning Europe and the US 🌎 Rigorous standardization of methods and materials allowed us to pool the data from these labs together into a single gigantic dataset 🐙

Mice are performing our standardized perceptual decision-making task in which they have to position a stimulus in the center of a screen to receive reward. The dataset contains the stimuli and decisions, but also videos from three angles and DeepLabCut pose information. We're even releasing all the raw ephys data!

We know, it's a lot. At your own pace you can read all the details about the experimental setup, the task, processing of the data, and much more in the technical paper which accompanies this data release: figshare.com/articles/preprint

To explore the data at your leisure, visit our visualization website where you can scroll through different recording sessions, look at neural activity during example trials, and see trial-based activity of single neurons: viz.internationalbrainlab.org

Do you have itchy fingers to run your models on this humongous dataset? We totally get it! Here you can find how to download the data using our API so you can fire up those computing clusters: int-brain-lab.github.io/iblenv

This was a collective effort of our stellar team, who all put in so much work to make this monumental achievement possible. Our collaboration consists of 22 PIs, 37 researchers, and 11 staff members who all worked tirelessly to bring these data to you, the community 👏🍾

Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.

Proud to re-publish the findings of my study here:
Reviving dead dry-erase markers by taping them to a string & spinning them like a lasso works pretty well!
(But I did get a capful of ink once—be careful out there)

Currently seeking guest speakers for our local #GirlsWhoCode club here at Michigan! Speakers are typically #WomenInSTEM who discuss their career paths and take questions from high school students. Presentations are about 10-15 minutes plus time for questions. Club is virtual so anyone can be our guest speaker! DM me if interested! #WomenInScience #Science #ScienceMigration
