Happy #BlackHistoryMonth !
Still working through white US history.
Q: Why are so many Black folk early adopters of tech like Uber and Amazon? Sometimes this willingness to try new tech early backfires on y'all, like the whole crypto scam. Tech companies don't always love you back. So... why so eager? Is it because of Deltron 3030 and André 3000? 🤔You're... you're going to say racism aren't you?
A: Yep! Racism. And go ahead and add Sears to that list of "technology" companies.
The BikePortland podcast is interviewing Portland, Oregon city council candidates. This one with my friend Steph Routh is particularly inspiring.

My productivity life-hack: I write myself a "Don't Do" list, and every Thursday evening, I tick the ones I haven't done, feel good about myself and reward myself with a bottle of Rioja and a curry. You can use my list, or write your own! #productivityLifeHacks
There are some studies on sex effects, but as they always say, "more research is needed":

Of course, a statistical trend won't match everyone's individual experience.
I remember hearing about a study on VR motion sickness and trans people. Surprisingly, it found that people doing HRT tended to be affected by the direction of that more than by their gender assigned at birth. In other words, it's not genetic or cultural -- it's hormonal.
Does anyone else remember seeing this one? I can't seem to find a link.
(Apologies if I'm misusing any terminology.)
In what will surely be the most exciting game of any kind played in America today, my mother beat me at Vordvoyance (a Scrabble clone) by one point.
@markarayner This appears to be mostly legit!

Two things we keep getting consistently wrong:
1⃣ Vastly overestimating future coal demand
2⃣ Massively underestimating future generation of solar PV
Love these graphics from @rethink_x
@janrosenow @rethink_x Alt text: two graphs, one of solar PV energy production and one for coal demand. Each of them shows predictions year after year. Each prediction is more optimistic than the last (higher PV, lower coal) and the actual curve suggests even the most recent prediction may be pessimistic.

A decent talk on communicating about climate change:
02.10. Ticket to Ride Legacy: Legends of the West
@peterdrake continued to cement his position as the superior robber baron in our household with another decisive win (159 vs 127). There wasn’t one single thing that made the difference, but rather incremental superiority in every aspect of scoring.

Art commission! I'd like to have a faux-baroque or earlier style portrait of a cat. You know, looks like an old oil painting at a glance, look at it a bit longer and it's a dignified cat instead of a human.
I'd be willing to pay a sum of money for the completion of such, and then be happy for you to slap it on any of the art printing websites for your own use, for other people to buy as well. I just want a poster to put in a frame!
Please boost. More details below.
