- Producing just 2% of the world's energy needs from liquid biofuel would require agricultural production to increase by another 30% by 2050.
- Even on the best lands, a hectare of modern solar voltaics can generate 40-100 times more usable energy than biomass

Reading about the time they blew up a beached whale carcass in Florence, Oregon with dynamite, sending chunks of rotting whale meat flying, crushing cars and dousing bystanders with rancid whale blood. The most incredible thing about this story, for me, is that the guy in charge of the operation said that it went "just exactly right" and blamed "hostile media" for the ensuing public relations issues.

I would never do standup comedy for a lot of reasons, but one of the main reasons is because I've learned almost everything by reading and I have very bad intuitions about how words should be pronounced so I think it's best for everyone if I just keep typing in this box and everyone else can keep assuming I pronounce these words exactly like they do.
