Overheard: *sigh* Oh, good. It's the optional open-ended question.

Solar Passes 100% of Power Demand in California

For 56 days in a row, electricity from solar, wind, and water (hydro) power has exceeded 100% of power demand on California’s main grid for part of the day. Also, going back further, that has been achieved in 80 out of the last 86 days. That is since early March (International Women’s Day), late winter.

Here's a first look into how my solo game dev project is coming along!

It's an action deck builder where you play as a witch with the goal of clearing restless nature spirits. You will be able to capture spirits and summon them as familiars!

Ever wondered how to debug a hanging test in #Python?

pip install pytest-timeout
pytest --timeout=N_SECONDS

To dump the whole stack trace you can add `--timeout_method=thread` as well.

Here is an example:

Last night I dreamed that my sister and my husband and I were trying to steal a spaceship. And we had apparently done it before, but it was so long ago we could not remember how to do it (and maybe security was better this time around, which would make sense).

The dream changed before we were successful, but we had gotten all the way to the controls so it was looking pretty good.

I also dreamed that my husband and I went to a party in my hometown and we took our cat, Catcher. Someone else brought their young pet cougar and its little support dog friend, and both of them escaped from the inadequate portable fence they were in. I have no idea where the dog went, but the cougar went straight for Catcher. And they became inseparable friends. It was love at first sight. Also, at once point before the cougar got out, my husband had calmed it and even petted it while it was inside the portable fence thing. He just wasn't visibly afraid at all and I was both terrified and impressed.

@artologica Between the pose and the background shapes that look like antennae, I thought this might be some kind of squirrel/ant centaur and therefore the squirrel of @futurebird's dreams.

amazing to see how many people can fit on streets when using vehicles other than cars!

Live in SW Portland (OR)? Do you now about SW Neighborhood News?

The first four pages of this issue focus on some internal bureaucracy about the neighborhood associations, but after that there's info on city council candidate forums, very local neighborhood reports, road construction, and a discussion event with unhoused people.

Just because I barked up the wrong tree doesn’t mean you can call me an idiom.

#PDX nerds: I'm embarking on a home #networking project and need about 250 ft of quality solid copper #Cat6 (or better) cable. Before I buy new, is anyone holding? Anyone with a half-used spool gathering dust in the garage? I'd much rather buy someone's leftovers. Thanks!

The other day at work, in an online meeting, a fuckhead said the phrase “Well, it’s probably because she’s a woman and she doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about”, referring to an external contractor.

I’m not out, but I stopped the meeting and said “You don’t get to talk like that in front of me. Now, I have to call HR.”

There was laughter. To which I replied sternly, “It is not funny. Do better.”

There was no laughter then.

I don’t put up with that shit. Misogyny, any kind of trans- or queer- based phobia, racism. None. That’s how you ally - you speak up. You challenge the notion that these fuckers are in a safe place. You DO have power to create change. Be the voice for the voiceless.

Afterwards, two of the other attendees reached out to me to thank for my courage to stand up to one of the “cool kids”. I don’t need thanks, I need people to be better.

BE BETTER.

When you donate to a charity at the cash register, the company can't deduct it. AP fact checked:

@mtechman ... but they can still brag publicly about how much "they" gave to charity without spending any money, right?

I thought the sign read
“Haiku Club” not “Hiking Club.”
We walked for hours. Hours.

@futurebird I can never get it to stick in my head that a "pivot table" is not just a matrix transpose.
