me: will my vision ever get better?

Why did Julius Caesar start using vim?

Because he had been told to "beware the IDEs of March".

I still don't know how I was ignorant for so long that crows travel to big communal roost sites in the winter, and when our four neighborhood crows show up in the morning they have basically just commuted to work. audubonportland.org/our-work/r

#3GoodThings

1. Completeness check for security role exercise was quick and easy.
2. Listening to one of the nieces share random facts out of her trivia book after dinner.
3. #Violet nesting in the blanket pile.

@thomasfuchs Solving important societal problems like "horse racing picks".

Sometimes when I’m having a particularly lousy day, I say “Computer, end program.” You know, just in case.

@BreadAndSalt I haven't looked into the details of the implementation. How many do we get to rank in each race?

It's only a murder of crows if there's probable caws

#cybersecurity zealots often shame humans for writing down their passwords, but as someone who just had to excavate the digital remains of a loved one who died suddenly:

*please* write down your credentials somewhere a trusted human can find them, especially your phone passcode and any primary passwords (like for email accounts, password manager, etc.)

the humans who care about you will need that access for many reasons; a "badass" threat model will only add helplessness to their grief

A reminder that, while LLM chatbots are overhyped, AI is providing real benefits to science:

Using AI, MIT researchers identify a new class of antibiotic candidates

Portland, Oregon city council district 4: who do you like?

I'll open the bidding with Chad Lykins, who says things like:

"The best way to reduce the carbon impact of transportation is by making it safer to walk, bike and take public transit."

"I will advocate for the construction of shelters that are safe, sanitary, and respect the dignity of the people they serve. This means making reasonable accommodations for pets, cohabitation, and freedom of movement."

@hireillo I didn't even know there was a #DragonAppreciationDay ! 😄 I like drawing dragons with unconventional hoards, so here's one who loves to hoard buttons, and another who has a decidedly less savory infatuation. 😅

If you're in East Portland (Oregon), please come out on Friday, January 26, to meet my friend Steph Routh at her campaign kickoff for Portland City Council District 1, East Portland! RSVP here: secure.ngpvan.com/DjcIZMsFiEac

Steph is not running in my district, but I can testify that she has both experience and the right priorities, including improving bike transportation and looking out for Portland's most vulnerable.
