@timjan In the excellent Daybreak board game, players have to produce more green energy AND get rid of the dirty energy.

He is out.

I repeat. He is OUT.

Up and at 'em, people! These snakes aren't going to oil themselves!

Heard from the other room: "There's a giant bug in here and I can't reach it. It's the size of a quarter and it's headed for your [Girl Scout] cookies."

Core competencies are something I think about a lot. I love to dig into what makes companies or ecosystems or social groups tick. Especially when that core competency *enables* what they do:

McDonald's, for example, is a real estate company that happens to make burgers.

Walmart is a shipping logistics company that also sells things.

What other examples can you think of where the core competency of the company is such that the "thing" a company does falls out naturally as a consequence?

Sometimes there is good news.

Texas is a deeply racist state, and the way it operates its judicial system is some of the best evidence. But an appeals court there overturned the conviction of a woman who only wanted to vote, and was told she could vote by officials, though it turned out she was ineligible.

Today's platelet donation viewing:

Damsel: A solid dragon movie, with the gravitasty Shohreh Aghdashloo as the voice of the dragon. Millie Bobby Brown is imperiled and plucky.

3 Body Problem S1E1: Well-done, but extremely grim. Also, why did they need 16 executive producers?

Note that each has one moment of mass bird death.

@mrcompletely ... but they almost always have you slash or peel back the film so steam can escape.

Does the film you peel back and replace on a microwave meal affect the cooking process, or is it just a splatter guard?

@atomjack604 Waiting for a story where a were-komondor infiltrates a facility by disguising herself as a mop.
