@ZTLaidlaw @jmaris Oh, he knows what it means. When an autocrat teams up with ideologically-compliant members of the private sector and then begins using both state and corporate power to punish and reward, and flouts, ignores or rejects all judicial or legislative constraints, that's textbook fascism.

@InsertUser @amapanda
If they're so sure that people want it, why do they steadfastly refuse to give you a choice? Rhetorical question, of course. They've bet heavily on this and they're terrified that people will say "no thank you" in droves.

(I'm still using Google search, having altered my default browser string to one that doesn't give you the "AI summary"*. But it's a hack and if it became commonplace I'm sure they'd disable it.)

*I'll post it here if asked.

@Corb_The_Lesser @ElleGray Well c'mon, be fair, he'd have counted him as 3/5ths of a vote for congressional representation purposes.

@Fife4Europe I think if they're going to go through the upheaval and disruption of relocating, "slightly better, for now" isn't much of a draw. The EU's a far better bet.

@bruces Also, the effect relies on calcium levels not present in everyone's water. We have very soft water where I live.

@n_dimension @evacide @mattblaze

It's not like it'd have to be any damn good to be an improvement on this lot.

@dx @overholt Don't forget the little video camera inside and the user-facing display that captures stills of things you're vacuumed up and shows them to you. Nothing like the occasional closeup of a dusty froot loop or leaf fragment to give you the strength to go on with your vacuuming.

@bigpawedbear @davidallengreen Never understood this expression. Why is this a good thing? And who outside of Russia or Mississippi grew up with shithouses to compare random other things to anyway?

@bruces Also it can predict the twist ending of an M. Night Shyamalan film before his mother has even conceived him

@bruces As a side effect, it'll also be able to predict the course of a billiard ball after 12 collisions before the player has even taken his cue out of its case.

@thomholwerda I thought Peter Jackson made a (rare) good choice in having Arwen save the hobbits from the ringwraiths instead of an elf who, irrespective of his importance in the Tolkein canon, has little else to do in the film. It tied her into the story and turned her into something more than a princess bride.

@thomholwerda
Curious that he didn't extend that to elves though, only Men. Galadriel pretty much rules to the exact extent she chooses to. She has a couple of male peers but doesn't defer to them or even consult them on most things.

@xavez And look, it cites things that actually exist!

Dear American citizens, whatever you wish more German citizens would have done in 1933, do that now.

@bruces There should be a second button for "just delete enough that they won't be able to recreate me without splicing in some frog DNA"

@beebrookshire Incredible that people don't notice this by themselves. The damn things will say anything except "I don't know". You wouldn't put up with this from an employee or colleague for even a day, yet people already losing jobs to these things.

Y'know, Lucky Charms added blue diamonds in 1975, but it wasn't until 1998 that Pfizer made them actually do anything

@mshelton Well there goes my investigative tactic of just using the username "Mom"
