OMG the wikipedia explainer on sealioning is a giant steaming bucket of pure refined cringe.

Surprised it took me this long to notice: if you change your default search engine in Chrome to something non-Google, you also lose the right-click option to translate selected text.

And overnight the blue check has gone from unreliable indicator of interesting to reliable indicator of uninteresting.

If someone relates a contemporary myth in a forest, is it still an urban legend?

Was just cleaning up some motion activated videos from the Raspberry Pi camera over the front door and stumbled on one from a few weeks ago of a raccoon trotting up the driveway, with the cat trotting purposefully after him, about two seconds behind. I'd give a lot to know how that turned out.

One difference is that people couldn't easily leave Romania or Libya, so they had to act instead.

Offhand, I wonder what percentage of Russians are ready to give Putin the sendoff Romania gave Ceaușescu and Libya did Gaddafi.

"But buzzfeed did good journalism!"

"If they wanted me to notice that they should have stopped being buzzfeed."

(Just kidding. An asteroid would take out a lot more species than just humanity, none of whom deserve it.)

If youtube's default landing page is an accurate reflection of present-day human society, send the asteroid.

If a very thin publication is a pamphlet, is a book a pamph?

A working healthcare system, no potholes, great public transportation, what's not to love?

Also, bring back the Danelaw. I mean who in the North wouldn't rather be governed by Danes at this point?

I still haven't managed to come close to as many solid, human-curated Ukraine news follows as on Twitter. And no, I really don't care to follow Twitter mirror-bots.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Wild coincidence just now. Decided to look at the live Starlink coverage map. Noticed in passing that it showed the ISS about to pass near Portland. Pulled up the live ISS HDEV feed. Their down-facing camera was on and It came up at the very moment it passed over Portland; could clearly see the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. (We're having a very rare cloudless moment.)

I used to leave the ISS feed up all the time and I never caught this once. Now did it completely by chance after not looking at it for years.

If the first thing you do when I visit your site is overlay a popup onto it asking for my email address, the first thing I do in turn is hit the back button or close the tab. I doubt very much I'm the only one.

@barks @slcw As a supposition it's pretty famously untrue. i was at a talk by a former intelligence chief who talked about the dilemma faced by our intelligence partners:

If they don't share intelligence with us, they're cut out of a vital loop, but if they do, their intelligence will be dissipated into a vast and unguarded US public sector and discussed openly by first-year congressional aides brown-bagging their lunches in DC parks.

As a long time @eff supporter, I'm pretty disappointed in that they're yelling "conspiracy theory, fake news! Just plug your phone into any USB jack you find, it's always PERFECTLY SAFE"

No. AC adaptor USB chargers are tiny, cheap and we all have a box of them. Bring one.
